But, disappointed by Karman's loss here. She needs to start beating these players in 200-250 range regularly if she wants to move ahead to top 200. She does beat them every now and then but is not consistent in winning against these level players still.
Yes, she needs to start beating such payers consistently. But then again, if she is experimenting enough in her matches, and trying to improve the accuracy of her less-accurate shots rather than focus only on winning matches, I don't have a big problem in her losses. Sania used to do that when she was at a similar age. Used to drive us crazy with some of her matches where she would keep hitting the "bad shots" and lose. She had that kind of devil-may-care attitude. Some of those bad shots became her strengths later. It all started falling in place and she shot up to the top-100 at one point later.

Karman is the type of player with the tools that allow her to try a lot more with her game than most others - so I hope she would try a lot more stuff than others can even try. If that is why she loses some of these matches, then things are okay. If it is because she goes into a shell and starts choking, that's another thing. Hopefully not. I am not too down on her progress. She has played a lot of good players in the juniors and the pros, has got some good coaching, and is primed to take off at some point to top-150 or top-100. Stay injury free and keep working on the game.

Yes, overall Karman has done fine this year. Early part of the year she played on clay in Europe which is not her best surface and could not win much. But, since May this year she has started playing exclusively in 25K events on hard courts and has made 2 finals, 3 semi finals and 4 QF's in 14 tournaments. That is a pretty good success rate at this level of tournaments.

And on checking the details, she has a pretty good record against top 300 players too this year - 6-9 for the year which is 40% winning record against them which is not bad and includes 3 wins against top 200 players.

Just expected a deep run from her this week at home.

She has had trouble winning titles. Actually going more than 3 or 4 matches at her best, seems to be rare. She has lost many finals so far. Otherwise her ranking would be a bit higher. She is surely playing at a top-250 level which is better than almost anybody since Sania, at age 19. The next few months would say something about what levels she is ultimately going to reach. She has the tools, so why not look for top-100 in a year or two?

True, in fact only one who reached this level since than is Ankita Raina. But, she reached there when she was close to 21, a year and half later than what Karman did. But, Ankita has got stuck at this level for above 4 years now. I think Karman has higher potential and will not get stuck at this level.

She has got up from around 400-450 level last year (although her ranking was lower due to not playing enough events) to around 250-300 level this year. Currently, I think she is only ranked around 30 in her age group ( i.e below 20 years of age). Usually, those in top 20 in their age group go on to reach top 100 at their best. So, as of now Karman seems to be heading towards 150 or so career best level. Needs to take some steps and try to move to top 200 in next 6 months which will give hope that top 100 is possible in a year or two.

Ankita is a good athlete and has a good fore hand but nothing beyond. Hence she is stuck. Kamran has better potential.

Hope what Sameer says comes true and she breaks into top 150.

As much as i like Ankita, i find it hard to justify a full time traveling coach for her based on her game

Wild cards for next week's $25K in Navi Mumbai have gone to Pranjala Yadalapalli, Rutuja Bhosale, Dhruti Venugopal and Akanksha Nitture ( who ?).

It is a very tough qualifying draw which starts tomorrow. Only Indian who is seed is Riya Bhatia who is 9th seeded but is likely to face 7th seed Kela Juvan in Q2. Mahak is facing 3rd seeded 431th ranked Brirish Samantha Murray in Q1. Mihika Yadav is facing 11th seed Thai Nuninda Luangnam. Nandini Sharma has been given a wild card but plays 14th seeded 604th ranked Brit Sarah Beth Grey.

Tough matches for all Indians and someone will have to pull off 2 upsets to qualify ( except Riya who will need 1).

I think Akanksha had got a singles and doubles wildcard in the earlier event too. It is really not fair to others. Jay

Not everything is determined by fairness in this world. The answer to this mystery might lie in the power to influence possessed by her kinsmen :)

^^^ I think I saw her dad listed as her coach at the ITF website. Maybe he is influential in the tennis circles around there. She is among the top sub-juniors in Maharashtra or something though. Not deserving of this many wildcards, for sure.

Hopefully, she will be faced another Indian in the first round, so one of our player will have safe passage to the second round.

Riya is the only Indian thru to the second qualifying round. She was the only player who played fellow Indian.

Only Mihika was able to stretch her seeded Thai opponent.

Mahak lost 36 16. :-(

Riya lost 16 26 against talented Kela Juvan. So, no Indian qualifies for the main draw.
