Time to sleep - 4.10 AM totally worth it to see Lee play so well and Purav regain his confidense with the serve. For a change, Leander I think did not even face break point on his serve in the entire match - it felt like it was a rewind of 10 years again. Please Lee - put that sliced return in the trash and return like how you did today! :)

What a win what a win what a win.
I must say I had no hope from them today.

I am glad to be proven wrong.

Purav has vastly improved. Purav looked absolutely opposite from today when I last saw him in September at the US Open in person.
What transformation after playing with Leander for few months.
Leander played a brilliant first set also.

Class win.

Mad respect for Leander.

The match duration was 2 hours and 54 mins ... Our both players played really good doubles game; with a smart shot placing, shot selections and their serve placement ... Though our pair failed to convert numerous break point chances, they kept trying and played their natural game without affecting their game ... Overall impressed by Purav and Lee's approach in this match and their game.

Is there anyone better at bringing out the very best (on court) from his partners than Leander Paes?

Fantastic win by LeePu over 2016 Australian open champions.

. Never thought they would this. Today Leander was almost back to his old self, his serve was good after a long time, returns were superb. Purav also more than played his part, he got some of the crucial points including backhand return on match point.

According to the draw LePu are in the bottom half and if all goes well may run into the Bryan twins enroute to the final

Bops and his partner if all goes well will run into the winners of ramsharan and the top seeds in the top half.

So a distant possibility could be 3 Indians in the final. :D

Just read a review of Hyeon Chung's match against Alex Zverev at the Aus open. Chung credits his staying power and victory to the previous weeks' training stint in Thailand with his team. Wasn't this the same one that Yuki went to? And Chung is able to catapult himself into the top 60 at age 21, and our guys Yuki and RamK continue to struggle.

Chung has one amazing statistic going for him - 69% win on baseline exchanges which is more than 20% better than the likes of federer.

Tomorrow's matches for us-

[R3] Leander Paes (IND)/ Purav Raja (IND) vs (11) Juan Sebastian Cabal (COL)/ Robert Farah (COL) - second match on court 8 at around 7 am India time

[R1] Siddhant Banthia (IND,41) vs (5) Hugo Gaston (FRA,5) - second match on court 10 at around 7 am India time

[R1] (Q) Akanksha A Bhan (IND,116) vs (6) Joanna Garland (TPE,17) - Third match on court 22 around 8.30 am India time.

Hoping for another cracker of a performance by LeePu . Not expecting anything from our juniors playing against higher level competition.

Chung is a super athlete and he looks like a next top 10 prospect for sure . The way he handled Zverev was amazing

As the news of doubles maestro playing on show-court #2 at the Aus Open grounds got around, it got packed within no time and soon it was standing room only. Lee the master feeding off the love and adulation from his admirers, rose to the occasion ably supported by his apprentice. The Master and his Apprentice totally regaled the lucky audience with a masterful display of artistry and finesse. The victory was a bonus.

Prof - I think its a slightly unfair comparison. Even when Yuki was at his peak in 2015 (reached #88 rank), Chung was a much superior player and would almost always dominate the rallies. He has much more velocity both in his serve and ground strokes. He is a potential top-10 player while for Yuki, the ceiling is around 50-70 in terms of layman assessment. We should also probably differentiate players from western / non-western countries.

Ram on the other hand, I am not even sure if he is in the same bracket. He might actually be over-achieving compared to his relevant peer bucket. Layman notes from observation - you would probably have much more insight on this topic.

Great to know that Leander can still fill the stands in Melbourne with his artistry.

The second, third, fourth and fifth seeds are out, and so is doubles #13 Granollers. Let’s see if the top seeds can survive RamSharan!

Leander now at #51 in the live rankings, Purav #53 and Divij #44 (career high).
