It's a bit early to talk about it, but the Chennai Challenger ($50K+H) is an odd addition to the calendar (starting the week of 12th February). Pure compensation for losing the Chennai Open, but a tournament that will be difficult for players to fit into their schedule. There are some Futures in India, but the first of these start after a full week's gap following the Chennai Challenger final.
Our guys need to plan these things better. There should have been at least one more Challenger in India following the Chennai one.

Flip side of that is the field is likely to be very weak and our players can earn a lot of point at that Chennai challenger. There is a challenger in Japan the week after that. So, some of the players plan to do that travel plan and come to Chennai. Of course, it is as much difficult for our guys like Yuki and RamK ( who will not be playing subsequent futures) to come back to India just for a week if they are travelling to US or Europe.

Not Only it will be out of the way for our top guys to accommodate in their itinerary , there will also be a huge deficit in attracting decent ranked foreign participation. Eventually due to obligations some of our top guys may show up , but overall this 50k challenger will resemble Indian Nationals .

I do not mind that happening if it enables our players to gather few easy points to take their ranking ahead which will enable them to get into entry lists for higher level tournaments later in the year.

Haha. I was wondering why this thread was back up, and if Dhruv's site software update messed things up! But, a good call there, fashab. So far so good, this year. But things can always be temporary blips too.

List of Challengers has been announced untill 29th Oct and Pune / Banglore do not figure in the list.
Fingers crossed for a late announcement in the November Slot , the same period both the challengers were held last year.

Twitter page of Bengaluru open already indicated that the tournament will be held this year from November 12-17. Also Pune challenger is likely to continue this year, although there were some question marks about it being hosted next year due to increase in prize money by ATP. Jaydeep had posted an article in another thread. Now, this is another one on same subject -

ATP Challenger revamp likely to affect tournaments in India

At least this year both the challengers looks safe enough to be held.

Yes, it is confirmed. Both the challengers are on ATP challenger calendar now. In fact Bengaluru is now a bigger $150K(+H) challenger in the week of November 12 and Pune a $50K(+H) challenger in the week of November, last 2 weeks of this year's challenger circuit.
