Kaza used an opportunity and enter into the second round ... But next, Kaza and Arjun r facing top 2 seeds ... KU failed to show consistency in the singles results and lost a close match against a Canadian qualifier.

Arjun produces an upset win with his opponent retiring after trailing 5-7 0-2. :D Good job by Arjun taking the first set.

[R2] Arjun Kadhe (IND,799) 7-5 2-0 retd. (2) Denis Yevseyev (KAZ,546)
Arjun's probable QF opponent is former WR #6 junior Jurabek Karimov. The Uzbek won the Malaysia F1 last week. Tough match.

Yes, another good win for Arjun. Now, he faces a tough test against last week's champion. Kaza lost his match.

[R2] (LL) Vinayak Sharma KAZA (IND,1405) l. (1) Scott Griekspoor (NED,542) 26 57

Next,

[QF] Arjun Kadhe (IND,799) vs. (SE) Jurabek Karimov (UZB,1029)

Jurabek Karimov was the runner-up in the Australian Open junior singles last year. So he can play. But Arjun is ranked much higher, is more experienced, and should be expected to win this match, especially after ousting the second seed in the previous round.

Plus, the winner of any week tends to be the most vulnerable in the QF and SF of the next week. Right time for Arjun to put an end to that guy's run :) .. Get up on top of him and stay there, as he will probably lose focus somewhere along the way...

Rankings are a bit of misnomer for both Arjun and Karimov as they have played full schedule due to their college/junior circuit commitments. I think both are top 500 level player right now at least.

This Karimov guy has beaten 2 players ranked close to top 500 last week and has not dropped a set in the 7 matches here. As Jay said, hope he loses some focus as physically he may not be that tired die to straight set wins.

Karimov easily beats Arjun. :-(

[QF] Arjun Kadhe (IND,799) l. (SE) Jurabek Karimov (UZB,1029) 16 26

Off to next week where Siddharth Rawat will join KU and Arjun in main draw with lots of other Indians in qualies.

I suppose my loss-of-focus theories didn't work on this Karimov dude. But then again, it was important to get up on top of him early, like I said. He didn't allow Arjun to do that...

Looking at these results it's pretty clear that our national level of play and likely coaching is pretty substandard. I think Dalwinder Singh won our national title and seemingly can't win qualies matches in the lowest level futures. It looks like our players have to play an extended amount of time in the US or Europe before they become competitive at the lowest professional level.

True, for most of the Indian players ( unless it is evident that they are truly talented like Yuki or Sumit), the best way to develop their game better would be to a go to a US college. Other way to spend a long stints at European acedamies if they have money and sponsorship to do that like RamK had or Adil Kalyanpur has now. Look at how players who went to US college system with similar age and talent level as Dalwinder are coping better at the futures level like Arjun Kadhe or Rishab Agarwal.

First round results in Malaysia -

[R1] (Q) Suraj R PRABODH (IND,1618) d. (8) Karunuday SINGH (IND,642) 62 36 64
[R1] Arjun KADHE (IND,796) d. Ken ONISHI (JPN,686) 67(3) 60 76(3)
[R1] (5) Sidharth RAWAT (IND,530) d. (Q) Rio NOGUCHI (JPN,1260) 64 75

KU's play continues to be inconsistent but good win by Suraj Prabodh.

[R2] (Q) Suraj R PRABODH (IND,1618) vs. Raphael BALTENSPERGER (SUI,677)
[R2] Arjun KADHE (IND,796) vs. (3) Antoine ESCOFFIER (FRA,431)
[R2] (5) Sidharth RAWAT (IND,530) vs. Borna GOJO (CRO,829)

Tough matches for all three of them Arjun and Suraj are playing higher ranked players than them whereas Sid is playing against borna Gojo who has been quite impressive at ncaa league winning against some quality opponents so I think it’s going to be a tough one for sid

Welcome to the forum, Mohit. Thanks for alerting on Siddharth's opponent, Borna Gogo's exploits in US college circuit. He has also beat top 100 player Bemelmans in the Winston Salem ATP qualies. So, wins any of the 3 matches by Indians tomorrow would be a sort of an upset.

Yes, that top-100 win is impressive but otherwise he has a pretty average 9-7 record in futures coming into this tournament (with futures in the US, Turkey, and Asia). He is just 19, so is perhaps finding his way in the pros. Good luck to Sid!
