4-4 0-40 seems to be a regular in Yuki's matches..... It happened in the 2nd and 3rd sets today, he saved all 3 on both occasions, but was not able to hold in the decider and it cost him the match... Losing from 3-0 up in the decider gotta hurt...

But the turning point has to be the 2nd set where his opponent was cursing himself after not being able to break at 4-4, when Yuki held after 10 mins for 5-4. And what does Yuki do? let's his opponent hold easily at 15.... He could have done better in that game..

Having said that, it was a good match for Yuki and hopefully the more he plays at this level, the more he will be able to close out the matches... :goodluck:

The only way to play more at this level is to win these type of matches. His ranking will force him to win 2 or 3 rounds or qualifying, which means he will likely get some sort of "niggle" as everyone here likes to call it, which will then likely carry over to the next tournament. At this age, he should be getting close to his peak in terms of conditioning and ability. I just don't see how he can play at this level with his history of getting hurt. I hope he pleasantly surprises us but I don't believe his body will allow him to play injury free long enough to consistently stay in the top 100, which is what it take to play more at this level.

Did he loses today due to injury or niggle issues ?

I watched the first 2 sets and there did not seem to be any discomfort. Did not watch the third set.

I thought Dzmhur had raised his game considerably in the second set as compared to first set. Yuki was pretty much playing at same level. Dzmhur is a top 40 player and there is no shame in losing to him for Yuki who is currently not in top 100 but that he lost from 3-0 up in the third set is sad. Overall Yuki's game looked pretty much at same level as Dzmhur which is good to know.

We've had ample confirmation that Yuki is capable of playing top-50 level tennis. But you have to win matches consistently at the Challenger level, and in situations like he faced against Dzumhur, to get there. I think Yuki is never sure of his fitness level and so succumbs mentally later in most of his matches. The exception was against the mercurial Monfils and in his next match at WashingtonDC.

Had he won a couple more matches here, he would have catapulted closer to 100 in the singles rankings, and the two Challengers in India would've have taken him there for sure. He had big chances to win it against Dzumhur, and has to figure out how to close out such situations without succumbing to nerves. A similar mental block prevented him from beating Dustin Brown on grass. These are the types of matches that can multiply one's confidence (yesterday's and the grass match against Brown).

He well and truly needs a team....i dont know what AITA basically build for...jus for conducting nationals....cant they see a player who has some world class abilities needs some assistance
Jus give him a year with a ful fledged team and i guess he can pay back for sure
In the second set damir was looking totally out of answers and kept constantly talking to his coach who made him belief that he has the ability to do it and he was altogether a different player in the 3rd set
That is what a team can do
I dont know when our associations would do justice to our players whether it be boxing or tennis or hockey
And then we talk about the olympic medals and all We have talent but these corrupted officials jus wants to fill their stomachs thats it
And we will always be short of talent on paper though reality is vastly different

It is a crying shame that he has no team whatsoever after 8 years on the pro circuit.

But I don't think Dzumhur could have received coaching in the middle of the match, except if there was some kind of break in play.

Sharan/Lipsky won the first set 6-4 against Ram/Klaasen, and it's 4-5 on serve in the second set of the Antwerp QF.

Our pair had a mini-break and were up 4-2, but have lost the last 3 points and will serve at 4-5.

Sharan-Lipsky win it 10-8, after soaring to a 9-5 lead and serving a second serve foot fault to make it 9-6. All's well that ends well!!

At €589K European Open 2017, Antwerp, Belgium

[QF] Scott Lipsky (USA)/ Divij Sharan (IND) bt (3) Raven Klaasen (RSA)/ Rajeev Ram (USA) 64 46 10-8

Excellent upset win by Divij and Lipsky. They should start playing as a pair more regularly. Now, Divij moves ahead of Purav as India #2.

He kept on saying something to the coach after every point who was sitting on the spectators box and it was the fist pumps and some general indications from the sidelines which kept him going while there was no one to whom yuki could look up to :-(
