Repeat of last week's final. Hope Bala and Vishnu get the same result.

PKBasu wrote: Thu Aug 10, 2017 4:35 am Vishnu/Balaji certainly have the makings of a successful ATP tour pair -- having prepared the way nicely this year by dominating the Asia Challengers. But they now need to start playing the occasional ATP tournament, perhaps during the China/Asia swing post USO.
Problem is there is no qualifying draw these days except at ATP 500 level. So, Vishnu and Bala have to get at least into top 100 before they can start playing on main ATP tour. The transition from challenger to ATP level is more difficult in doubles. One has to keep winning series of challengers to get there. But, once they get there is good opportunity to win a few matches every week and stay at that level as DiPu have shown.

They need to win the title this week, and then win another big Challenger title like this to get close to top-100 (particularly for Vishnu). Unfortunately, there isn't another Challenger in Asia next week.
Jeevan is the one whose doubles ranking is slipping: he needs to win some more ATP tour matches (and probably play a few more Challengers), otherwise the defence of his Chennai title (in Pune) will put too much pressure on him.

Tough R1 opponent for Yuki too! I don't know why Millman is ranked as low as this (he was ranked 60 in May 2016). He had a poor early part of the year, but reached R3 in the US Open this year, beating Nick Kyrgios in R1. Yuki will need to be at his best to win; his one advantage is that Taiwan is as close to being Yuki's tennis home away from home as is possible!

Yuki's R1 match should be played around 6pm local time on Monday (so about 3:30pm IST). Moriya vs Pollmans (to determine who plays the winner of the Bhambri-Millman match in R2) is the first match of the day.

Yuki just lost his serve in game 8 of the first set after a bunch of deuces and the first 3 BPs of the match. 3-5 down and facing serve. Yuki created two BPs in game 9 but Millman finally held to win the set. The last three games have gone to a lot of deuce and AD points. Pretty tight match. 3-6 0-0

More of those long games and multiple deuces from both guys in the 2nd set too. But no breaks. 3-6 3-3

The last three games went quickly though, with Yuki dropping serve without too much fight in games 7 and 9. Over. This match was pretty close for the first 15 games, when 6 games went to many deuces. Yuki couldn't get a beak in 2 BP chances and Millman converted 1 of 5. Then it fell apart at the end when Yuki only won 3 points in his 2 service games and JM won 12.

[R1] (7) Yuki Bhambri (IND,155) l. John Millman (AUS,190), 3-6 3-6
