Yuki/Divij are up 64 31 against the top seeds.

Jeevan/Vishnu lost the first set 6-7(6). It's 1-1 in the second set.

[R1] Yuki Bhambri (IND)/ Divij Sharan (IND) d. (1) Guillermo Duran (ARG, 57)/ Andres Molteni (ARG, 46) 64 62

I had no doubt that Yuki/Divij would beat the top seeds -- but this was a really consummate victory over a solid pair, which won their first ATP tour title at Umag earlier this year, and won the Orleans Challenger title in their last tournament together (9 days ago).

Yep, you predicted it yesterday. That was actually a really unusual call and I wondered if you mistyped. It wasn't like you were predicting a win against some minnows! I would've agreed that they had a chance, but doubles is so much of a crap-shoot sometimes when two good teams meet, that I wouldn't have predicted a win. In fact I don't remember anybody ever predicting the upset of any top seeds by an unseeded team, here. Whoa... :notworthy:

Jeevan/Vishnu lost 67(6) 67(6)

They were up 3-0 in the second set tiebreaker, but let that lead slip.

Yuki/Divij are a very strong pair, and generally dominate Asian Challengers when they play together. If our Davis Cup selectors really paid attention, this is a natural pairing.

Remember that Michael Venus (now a Slam doubles titlist) got his start in Slam doubles with Yuki as partner (when they made the AO third round with the Asian wildcard they had secured).

Yes, good to see Yuki play well in doubles as that is a sign that he is feeling fit (as the singles victory came after playing only 3 games). Hopefully, he can advance a couple of rounds more here in doubles and singles. Uzbekistan has been a good venue for Indians in the past...

Yuki lost 4-6, 6-1, 4-6
in final set, he was break ahead at 4-2 and lost 4 straight games
at 4-4 he was leading 40-0 on his serve then lost 5 straight points and then could not convert 2 BP's. :damn:

Yes, he was 4-2 up in the third set and lost 4 straight games and he had multiple game points/break points in the last 2 games. Poor loss. :damn:

Fabbiano lost to Safwat. So good opportunity to go deep lost by Yuki. On the flip side, he can play the ATP 250 Moscow qualies over the weekend now, provided he doesn't make the final in doubles.

Asian Challengers July-October 2017

Post by sameerph »

After a great start to the year ( Chennai open R2 after qualifying in, Aus open Q3 and 3 challenger SF's till May), Yuki's consistency at this level has fallen off in the second half of the year. If he had continued that way, he would have been closer to top 100 by now. He has not gone past QF in any of the 7 challengers he has played since start of grass season. Of course, there was one big effort in between at Washington but consistency is missing.
