Yes, I wish the entry cut off date had been 1 week later. Yuki would have been 4 or 5 out then with a better chance of making the main draw.

With Sumit's recent success, he should surely get one the main draw wild cards. Second one should go to Yuki. Assuming third wild card will go to a foreigner ( as used to happen in Chennai), RamK will have to go thru qualies which is fair enough considering that he has got so many wild cards in Chennai.

What do you guys think ?

Best case would be if IMG doesn't force a WC to be given to one of their kids and we can give a MD WC to all 3, and a qualifying WC to Saketh.

I hope what used to happen in Chennai will not happen from now on. That is a shameful practice that had to stop. I hope the tournament director Prashant Sutar will reset that "tradition"... Maybe hoping for too much, I suppose.

I guess it depends on how much clout IMG wields as against local organisers. Perhaps, as per agreement IMG might be entitled to give one of the wild cards to whoever they want. They will have to be pressurised to give up that wild card to an Indian player.

If Arjun Kadhe continues to do well, the organisered may be tempted to give one of the wild cards to him as he is a local Pune lad. But, I think he will be better served to get a qualifying wild card instead.

Actulally, this is a long time tradition from 20 years ago, and I don't think Karti was running things then. From the days when Brian Cooney and the Australian IMG was running it. Later when Mercedes-Benz who was the title sponsor would get German guys in (remember Brian Phau getting a WC?). One time I saw weeks ahead in a foreign newspaper that somebody has been given a wildcard, and I alerted Sharda Ugra to ask the tournament guys. They denied it, but the Swedish(?) guy got the WC later, just as we knew, and she wrote about it in The Hindu. Stuff like that used to happen every year there. It was all some money deals in Chennai. If I have to guess, it would be the same in Pune, but I am hoping that more people with a spine will be there to stand up and put an end to that Indian tradition of giving WCs to foreigners.

RamK, Sumit and Prajnesh are there in the qualifying entry list and Saketh with his PR is 4 out and should make it in eventually.

Why has Yuki not put in his name in the qualifying entry list. Has he already been assured of a main draw wild card ?

Yuki is in the list of alternates for the Qatar Open the same week (but then, so is Bemelmans).

Yuki is also in the alternates list for main draw at Pune. But, don't know why he has not entered qualies here.

But why would Yuki not think/assume that he will get a MDWC? It's the country's lone ATP event and he is the top-ranked singles player

Also, surprising to see Benoit Paire deciding to show up for Q after missing the deadline. I hope not that he won't request for a MDWC, too.
