Re: Tata Open Maharashtra 2018
Yeah, a poor end. I hoped for at least one to be in the QF. But that is tennis. Good days and bad days happen. It's a long year that is starting. Too early to feel too down. Hope they will all stay injury-free, and will get their breaks along the way soon. Jay

Re: Tata Open Maharashtra 2018
Divij/Yuki are up 5-2 and serving in their R1 doubles match against Djere/Kavcic.
Update: And they duly win the first set 6-2, and break Djere/Kavcic in the first game of the second set.
Further update: Our pair are serving at 4-1 in the second set. Good night!

Yuki- Divij thrash their opponents 6-2 6-2 in first round. So, 2 all Indian pairs are in QF.
Yuki Divij are up against top seeds next though.

Re: Tata Open Maharashtra 2018
Yes, this was a missed opportunity for Yuki in his home country as he had a really good draw with a 600+ and 81 ranked opponent standing in the way to the QF. Herbert has a pretty mediocre record in singles at the ATP level but has a good serve (and he served 13 aces) and that was enough to get through on this day.PKBasu wrote: ↑Wed Jan 03, 2018 11:14 am [R2] Yuki Bhambri (IND, 118) l. Pierre-Hugues Herbert (FRA, 81) 64 36 46
Massive opportunity missed. Yuki had three break points each in Herbert's first two service games in the final set, but couldn't convert one. Immediately after the second of those, Herbert broke him. Yuki stayed close (he was up 15-30 in Herbert's last service game), but an experienced pro doesn't let those opportunities slip. Herbert has a big, effective serve, but that cannot excuse letting six break opportunities go. Playing at home, this was a big chance for Yuki to take a step forward in his career, but that was not to be.
Yuki did his winter training in Thailand, so don't expect that he will have any more trouble adjusting to the heat when compared to those coming from Europe or North America especially since the Pune temperatures are apparently in the 80s (*F) during the day time. More likely his injury status will determine how well he does in AO qualifiers. The fact that he is playing doubles (and playing well) seems to indicate that any injury he has is relatively minor.

I think Yuki/Divij will beat the top seeds. Rohan/Jeevan have a tougher match against Herbert/Simon.

Re: Tata Open Maharashtra 2018
With the Entire Davis Cup Team along with the reserves in full attendance in Pune , Davis Cup Captain Bhupathi absence is intriguing when at a time as a Captain he should be taking stock of the situation, sizing up the players and reserves , Barring a fleeting appearance during Sumit's match he has been conspicuous by his absence in Pune

Yes, Yuki- Jeevan win the super tiebreak 10-6 to upset the top seeds and move to the SF.
Spot on with your prediction, PKB.

Re: Tata Open Maharashtra 2018
Good win by Divij-Yuki and great prediction by PKB!
Not surprised by Rohan-Jeevan loss as Herbert is a very good doubles player and so his pairing with Simon is likely really good.

Re: Tata Open Maharashtra 2018
Great win for Yuki-Divij.... They were down 3-5 in the first set and the top seeds were serving for the set...but our guys were brilliant after that with two breaks and took the set 7-5.... and they dominated the STB......
@Sameer, that should read Yuki-Divij

I have also spotted him during the Yuki vs. Arjun match...Rajiv wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2018 12:20 pm With the Entire Davis Cup Team along with the reserves in full attendance in Pune , Davis Cup Captain Bhupathi absence is intriguing when at a time as a Captain he should be taking stock of the situation, sizing up the players and reserves , Barring a fleeting appearance during Sumit's match he has been conspicuous by his absence in Pune

Re: Tata Open Maharashtra 2018
Happy about my prediction but sad that Yuki-Divij are the only Indian pair in the SF. Herbert/Simon will probably become the new French Davis Cup combination, and are a very tough pair. Clearly not as good as Herbert/Mahut, but still formidable.
