Very impressive win for Karman today. She has been in splendid form recently.

Also pretty impressive wins for Pranjala (over former #163 Ksenia Palkina) and Natasha (over the much higher ranked and fancied Sara Tomic) yesterday.

Doing well in a tough field like this is good for a player's game and confidence. The nextgen players Karman and Pranjala are a class apart from their compatriots (after Sania and Ankita), and it shows here.

Both Karman and Pranjala are choking while on the verge upsetting their seeded Japanese opponents.

After winning the first set 6-3, Karman was up 5-2 in the second set but has been broken twice to get back to 5-5 in the second set.

Pranjala won the first set 6-1 and was up 3-0 with a break in second set but has now just lost the second set on tie break 67 (3).

Kamran won in straights, 7-5 in the second.

Pranjala had an early break in the third but gave it up again.

Yes, while serving for the match for the third time at 6-5, Karman was down 0-30 but thankfully won the next 4 points. :D

Sameer beat me to it!! Great wins for 18-year-old Pranjala and 19-year-old Karman at this 25K event in Nonthaburi, Thailand!

I think 2 players in the QF of a womens challenger level event outside India is a rare occurrence in Indian tennis. Great that this is being achieved by a 18 and a 19 year old.

Very good showing from Karman and Pranjala. I wouldn't call this a challenger level (it is the old 15K with more money) event though I get what Sameer is saying. In any case, only men have challenger level events and so one uses prize money to make the comparison.

Yes, one can say that. But, there were 25K tournaments earlier too among women (unlike men) which we were having a higher quality field compared to 10 and 15K's. So, one used to call them as challenger level equivalent of mens. Anyway, leaving aside challenger level, rare to see such performances by Indian women in such a high quality field.

Pranjala having a very tough QF against local top seed while Karman plays another Japanese.

[QF] (Q) Pranjala Yadlapalli (IND,693) vs. (1) Luksika KUMKHUM (THA,179)

[QF] Karman Kaur Thandi (IND,340) vs. Kyoka OKAMURA (JPN,397)
