Our players seem to be no longer good enough to be doubles specialists but now they have acquired the special skill of being mixed doubles specialists :-(

I say it every year but the no play on middle Sunday is the most ridiculous rule in sport. While other slams are going the other way and starting on a Sunday this rule/tradition shows no sign of changing.

Completely agree. Perfect example of continuing a tradition for the sake of tradition.

So, nearly 3 years after winning the HSBC Road to Wimbledon title (beating a Brit in the final), Siddhant Banthia finally gets to play at Wimbledon (Court 9 first match today against Matteo Martineau), and he didn't get any favours for winning that tournament in 2014! (Apart from shaking Tim Henman's hand, I'm not sure what else he gained from that win, except the fact that the hallowed grass courts will be familiar to him).

Zeel scored dominating win over Japanese girl Naho Sato losing only 2 games ... Next, she is having a tough match against Russian girl Paigina, who is currently ranked #351 on WTA tour and already won 10 ITF women's titles, this year she won the title on clay.
[R2] (15) Zeel Desai (IND,19) vs Marta Paigina (RUS,191)
Good luck Zeel! Looks like I read the draw wrong? I thought she was going to play Ann Li but that's not the case. The Wimbledon iphone app is pathetic.

The middle Sunday off is meant for the grass to recover. This year, the condition of the grass on many of the courts has been completely terrible. Without the Sunday off (which admittedly only helps a little), it would be basically unplayable by middle of week 2. None of the other slams has a surface like grass which shows wear & tear...

Close loss for Siddhanth but good to see him putting up a very good win against a player ranked close to top 30.

Mahak just won her first round match against a higher ranked player.

[R1] Mahak JAIN (IND,29) d. Lea BOSKOVIC (CRO,26) 76(4) 46 64

After winning the first set, Mahak was up 4-3 in the second set from which point she lost 5 straight games to be down 0-2 in third set. But, she came back strongly to win 6 out of next 8 games. Good work.

So, now we have 2 Indian girls in second round here.

Mahak Jain, who just turned 16 a fortnight ago, has to be one of the most exciting tennis prospects in the world right now. I just hope and pray that she has the support system to achieve her enormous potential.

Mahak is a very good prospect by Indian standards but we have to be cognizant that girls develop a few years faster in tennis relative to boys.

She is 12th amongst girls born 2001 or later in the junior rankings, and 16th in the professional ranks.

We haven't had a girl be in the top 20 of the age-rankings since Sania unlike the boys where Yuki was in the top 10 until age 20 and RamK and Sumit have both spent time between 10-20 (and the latter is still there).
