Roland Garros 2017

Post by Rajiv »

At 219 this years FO Cut Off for the singles qualies seems to be very high .
Ram at 217 thanks to his Finals showing at Tallahase Challenger just about manages to scrape in , and joining him will be Yuki with his PR of 127.
The duo along with the usual Doubles Suspects would make up the Indian Contingent at the FO.

given how unlucky Saketh was earlier, good that an Indian has been on the right side

Also RamK himself finished only 1-2 spots outside the qualies draw at Australian open qualies this year. So, good to see him just getting in.

And he just about got in by his whiskers! RamK's ranking this week has fallen 40 places below the qualifying mark after his R1 loss in Karshi (and he was defending 51 points this week -- 33 from the Samarkand Challenger SF and 18 from winning the Spain F12 last year in successive weeks)...Phew!!

Qualifying starts on Monday, May 22nd. So if either Yuki or RamK go deep next week in Samarkand, they will be scrambling to get to Roland Garros in time to get used to the courts. I hope they will be skipping doubles at Samarkand.

Are Divij and Purav confirmed for French Open? I mean their ranking is good enough to make the cut?

Yes, quite easily. I think they're confirmed for Wimbledon too. Jeevan is marginal: he will need a highly-ranked partner.

Thanks, so want to see this team do well at the slams. Few round wins in major might bring their confidence back.

I thought they played well against Bryans few weeks back when they lost.

They are bit inconsistent but I hope they just stivk together and keep playig.

The qualifying draw is out, and both our players play seeds in the first round:

[Q1] Yuki Bhambri (IND, 241) vs. 25-Peter Polansky (CAN, 125)

[Q1] Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND, 262) vs. 13-Guido Pella (ARG, 111)

Potential Q2 opponents for Yuki are 12-Andrej Martin (SVK, 116) or Elias Ylmer (SWE, 234).
RamK has a tough Q1, but if he wins he will face either Vincent Millot (FRA) or Miljan Zekic (SRB), an easier match in Q2.

You've got the draws wrong PKB. Don't remember the exact matchups in the 2nd round for our players, but you've made a mistake somewhere! :D

Yes, Vatsal, I had the Q2 match-ups wrong.

Potential opponents for RamK in Q2 are actually Marc Polmans (AUS) or Michael Mmoh.
For Yuki, they are Mohamed Safwat (EGY) or Alexander Bublik (KAZ). Yuki has a pretty decent draw, if he can beat Polansky in Q1.

Polansky (Yuki's Q1 opponent) lost to RamK in the Savannah (GA) Challenger earlier this year. The more I look at it, the better the draw looks for Yuki...
