As many as 17 top singles players (including the likes of Murray, Djokovic, Nadal, Wawrinka, Tsonga, Berdych, Tomic, Kyrgios, Goffin, Zverev, Cilic, Dimitrov, Johnson) are playing doubles at Indian Wells this week resulting in a very high cut-off - 63 (advance), and strangely 62 (on-site). This obvisouly denied fringe aspirants - such as DiPu - an opportunity to play a big event. A very typical phenomenon that only happens at Indian Wells and Miami every year, unfortunately.

Actually, we are fortunate. The quality of tennis should increase even accounting for half-hearted play by some of these folks in the latter rounds especially if they are carrying injuries. On the balance, the tennis should be better.

No doubt about your comment and speculation on better quality, Prasen. If not for the physical demands of new age Tennis, we would have seen another McEnroe (at least someone closer) by now. Federer, Nadal, Wawrinka are very good doubles players. My frustration was mostly on a personal level as I was hoping to see DiPu in person. Co-incidentally, this is first time in 17 years I missed going to Indian Wells :(.

I have resisted posting this for a very very long time, but I'll say it now. I think Sania is a "toxic" partner. The only reason she reached #1, which she milked shamelessly in India, but is hardly worthwhile elsewhere, was due to Martina. Everywhere else, she bombed. Whenever she tasted a modicum of success, that partnership dissolved. Elena, Bethanie, Cara, all went away, it's just not possible that everyone else is bad and Sania is a saint. On the contrary, I think she probably thinks too highly of herself and tries to be the better one wanting to claim the credit for successes and quick to blame others when things don't go well. I suspect she does not take feedback and constructive criticism well either. So, no partner will be good for her, and it's not because of tennis; rather, it is her personality.
