Maharashtra ITF Women tournaments Oct 16-Jan 17
After a virtual drought of tournaments on womens side this year ( no tournament since February), we finally have a series of tournaments in Maharashtra to look forward to. MSLTA will be holding 7 tournaments from next week till end January.
Oct. 24- $10K Pune,
Nov. 7 - $25K(+H) Pune
Dec. 5 = $10K Solapur
Dec. 12 - $25K Pune
Dec. 19 - $25K Navi Mumbai
Jan. 16 - $25K Aurangabad
Jan. 23 - $15K Nashik
I am surprised though that there is no tournament at all in proper Mumbai. There has not been any since last couple of years, I think and I do not remember when did Mumbai have a mens challenger event last.

She's going back to France for a couple of weeks of training. Will play the $25K(+H) Pune event from 7 Nov & a few events elsewhere in Asia after that.sameerph wrote:This is the entry list for next week's $10K tournament in Pune -

Nice job by MSLTA to line up such a slew of tournaments that give the Indian women players a wonderful opportunity to notch up points.

Mihika beat Dhruthi in the recently concluded nationals. I expect her to repeat the result again.

Re: Maharashtra ITF Women tournaments Oct 16-Jan 17
The two foreigners in the singles draw were both beaten in R1, so it is an all-Indian event from here on.
Prerna Bhambri seems to have dropped out.
It should be interesting to see how the younger Indians do (although even the top seed is only 19).

Womens tournament in Pune seems to be full of upsets today.
Third seed to fall today was 5th seeded Kyra who lost in straight sets against Sai Samitha.
6th seed Pranjala also lost the first set 3-6 against Shweta Rana but has just won the second 6-1.

Pranjala YADLAPALLI (IND) [6] 6-4 6-4 Natasha PALHA (IND) [3]
Prarthana G. THOMBARE (IND) [4] 6-4 6-4 Sai Samhitha CHAMARTHI (IND)

Good to see 17 year old Pranjala and 16 year old Mihika make the SF here. I would root for them against 22 year olds Prarthana and Sowjanya.

Yes, very good to see the nice run by the 16- and 17-year-olds, Mihika and Pranjala. (Why is Zeel not playing in Pune?).
Sowjanya is an unpredictable player, and Riya seems to have run into her on one of her better days!

Re: Maharashtra ITF Women tournaments Oct 16-Jan 17
Yes, Sowjanya seems to have run into impressive form this week. She beat Pranjala too in straights sets. 16 year old Mihika Yadav makes her first ITF final beating Prarthana in the SF.
[SF] Sowjanya BAVISETTI (IND,875) d. (6) Pranjala YADLAPALLI (IND,683) 64 61
[SF] (WC) Mihika YADAV (IND,NR) d. (4) Prarthana G. THOMBARE (IND,611) 64 57 61
Mihika is unranked at the moment. But, she won a round in Delhi challenger early this year which gives her 5 points and now has 7 points from this week totally to 12 points which is more than minimum requirement of 10 points for the ranking. So, she will get into rankings next week straightway inside 1000. A win in final can take her into 700's.

I don't know if you noticed Sameer, but Pranjala served an unusual number of double faults in this tournament. Double-digits in all her matches.

Re: Maharashtra ITF Women tournaments Oct 16-Jan 17
No. I had not that noticed that. Yes, on checking the stats, it does not look like very high - 12 today, 17 yesterday, 11 in second round. Pranjala seems to be having some trouble in her game this year after she made a challenger level SF in Aurangabad in January. It is to her credit that with all those double faults, she was able to reach SF. So, if she sorts out whatever is wrong with her she can get back on track .
