WOW! This is better than last year! I think she heard Buji's comment! Will be interesting to see how she does against a top 250 player. Bdw if Isha is available, she can play in the Fed Cup. I will go for Sania, Balu, Isha and Rishika. Prerna and Ash are in awful form. If Rutuja does well at Aus Open she will definitely be selected!

I dont think going for Isha is a better option, from what i have known, she is not taking tennis seriously after her marriage, she was into her hubby's marketing business in the initial days and now as we all know she is into coaching. And that too,we should not rely on someone who is not ready to play full time tennis.

I guess Kyra,Rutuja,Rishika,Sharmada,Ashvarya and Sri Vaishnavi if given some assitance (as in the case of RamK,Sriram,Mohit) will do far more better than they have produced results so far.Waiting for that to happen.

But she is still better than all the girls combined, out there! But I think it wont be very difficult to qualify for Group 2. The real work starts from then. May be we can discuss all these in the Fed Cup thread. Bdw came across an old article with interviews of Nirupama and Rushmi after the Asian Games 2010, on the poor state of women tennis in India. Not sure if it was posted here earlier. http://www.mid-day.com/sports/2010/nov/ ... -Games.htm

At least she did not get bageled! May be its time to open a thread for her. Any national champ deserves it.

Rutuja's achievements at 15 are very heartening indeed. She had a slight dip in form on the junior circuit over recent months, but she is clearly a very special talent, and has the potential to be our next top-100 pro in 3-4 years if nurtured well.

So the nurturing did not happen? She is still around #300 and is 24. Graduated from Texas A&M in the meantime. Is there any hope? What went wrong? Or was PKB too optimistic?

PKB is always too optimistic, you know. But Rutuja has done reasonably well. We haven't had a ton of top-300 players. She has better potential as a doubles player now than as a singles player though. I may be wrong.

Rutuja is now ranked in 400's in singles and in top 200 in doubles. She is 24 now and making too far in singles looks difficult now. Everyone is also almost going to lose 1 year now and those who are realtively older it will become even more difficult like Rutuja or say someone like Saketh on mens side.

9 wasted years? Maybe it wasn’t the right decision to go to college, but the AITA did precious little to nurture her career.
