:bounce: nice win by Somdev over Moya - former number 1 and a past champion (twice) at Chennai!
"Hopefully, I'm not just quarters. I'm not one of those guys who gets content easily," he said.
Love that quote. Go Buji!!

Buji's victory over Moya should inspire us to start posting in larger numbers in the forum. Sports-India forum appeared to be dead for a couple of months despite Saina trying to do her best to keep the interest alive, but there are few takers for badminton. ;)

But second seed pair of Lee and Lukas started on wrong feet ... They lost against German pair in super tie break ... :(

In the first set our pair was down 1-4 but they played exceptionally well to win next 5 games to clinch first set but afterwards everything went against them.

[R1] (2) Lukas Dlouhy (CZE)/ Leander Paes (IND) l Bjorn Phau (GER)/ Rainer Schuettler (GER) 64 26 (7)10

Fabulous win by Somdev!! Clearly the best of his young pro career.

He has a pretty good shot at beating Karlovic if he can get enough of Karlovic's serves back. Karlovic is a better version of Isner and hopefully the current Somdev is an improved version of the Somdev that handled Isner a couple of years ago.

WOW! Awesome performance, Buji!!! You made my day! :bounce: woohoo woohoo woohoo

Drawing Karlovic in the quarters is perhaps a good thing for Buji. After all, he has a lot of experience beating the crap out of someone similar - 6'9" John Isner .

I predict a close 2 set win (with the first one going to TB) for Buji.

Good luck, Somdev!

About Karlovic...looks like Moya is 4-0 against him, the latest being as recent as 2008.

What this means is that a Moya-like approach (get all the serves back, run like hell and counterpunch) in general should work on Ivo.

Lets hope that whoever is with Somdev has the sense to give him the right advice. But then again, he has trained with Roddick for 3 weeks! That was a great break for him.

Cheers,
Prof

Hey, a lot of you (including Prof, which surprises me a bit!) brings up the training session with Roddick. I am sure it helped, but it is not like Somdev suddenly became so unexpectedly good just because he hit with Roddick for a few days.... In fact, hitting with somebody good rarely makes a huge hell of a lot of difference, though it of course improves a player. At least that is my impression - I may be wrong.

He has had a top-50 win before, and has had a few top-100 wins too. I had thought that there was a fairly decent chance for him to beat Moya. If Somdev is again playing with the form before Davis Cup, this win is not such a big surprise ...
