Probably my fault since I assume pompous pronouncements in your posts while the "understated" point (whatever it is) continues to slip by me...
his extremely subtle point (like always) is that leander sucks...
"Sucks" would be harsh, invalid and disrespectful.  I do respect his amazing talents as a doubles player and his record speaks for itself.  But the record is in the past.

I am just saying that I believe that Leander is past his prime.  And his results over the past two years have done nothing to change my opinion.  Also, there are other doubles tandems, with two so-called singles specialists from the same country, that are doing extremely well. And as such it would be huge surprise to me if he gets anywhere near an Olympic medal at Beijing even in the company of Mahesh.  I know my opinion is in counterpoint to some optimistic fans in this forum.

Seems to have gotten under Arjun's skin.  It's just my opinion, my friend.  Don't get your knickers in a knot over it.

I hope I'm proven wrong, especially for Mahesh's sake.

My opinion is that your opinion is incorrect (or sucks if you wish).  Mahesh is the one who has always been carried by his partners.  In all his GS wins, he has been the "junior" partner (aka the Scottie Pippen) -- whether it be with LP or Mirnyi.  He is very much the Scottie Pippen in his currently collapsing tandem with Mark Knowles as well.  Whenever, he has paired up with others that are not great, he has sucked (like all of last year with an endless stream of partners).

Of course, he does play well with the girls and earned every one of his MxD crowns (and he may earn another one here).  Unfortunately, MxD is a different ball game --- one based on who kills the softballs better.  But if hitting softballs makes you great, then Brijesh Patel would be an all time great as well....

In reality, you appear to be mad that LP is not doing his utmost to carry Mahesh to a medal.  I am mad as well but for the reason that they represent one of India's few hopes for a medal.

Now now Arjun - we all know that you are our resident LP apologist, but do tone down your polemics against Mahesh.  There is no solid grounds for contesting that Mahesh has been carried in any of his successful partnerships.  In fact, Mahesh was the senior/better player in his GS-winning partnership with Mirnyi (who has never been a truly elite doubles player, and has foundered apart from legends Mahesh and Bjorkman).  Mahesh has won plenty of titles with lesser partners, even within the last two years.  Your charges have little to no merit.

MXD -
[SF] Jie Zheng (CHN)/ Mahesh Bhupathi (IND) l (1) Katarina Srebotnik (SLO)/ Nenad Zimonjic (SRB) W/O

But due to Mahesh's strained left calf muscle, they mostly give walkover to top-seeds ... :(

Edited - Removing whole article as found URL for same article.

Injured Bhupathi doubtful for semis

Edited - They gave walkover ... Hesh having very less time to be fit for Wimbledon and before that his team up with Lee at 's-Hertogenbosch, Ordina Open.

Despite the progress in the mixed doubles, it has been a wretched fortnight for Bhupathi, whose left calf was sore after he hurt it at practice just before the tournament. Later in the week he caught the flu, which he’s still struggling with.
Ah, maybe this explains his awful first round loss here.

Also worth noting that the Cuevas-Horna pair (who upset LP-Dlouhy in their debut) are now in the mens doubles final...

Congratulations to Ana Ivanovic! With the retirement of Henin and the Williams sisters not in top form, it will perhaps be the dawning of the new era of Sharapova and Ivanovic.  Kuznetsova won a grandslam and the slightly older Jankovic is a threat.  Imho, Anna C. is a shade below the top-2.  Some precocious newbies are a couple of years away.

Chinese Taipei's 17 year old Yang Tsung Hua became the first Taiwanse player to win a grand slam junior title when he lifted the single title at Roland Garros after beating Poland's Jerzy Janowizch in the final 63 76.
Yang seems a huge talent & had also reached the Australian open final earlier in the year. He has also done well in some futures in India of late. He has only played in grand slams in juniors this year & has otherwise played on senior tour. A perfect roll model for someone like Yuki to emulate next year.

Hey, nballa, don't you know that Paes carried Bhupathi to all those Grand Slam titles - even the mixed doubles ones that Bhupathi won??!!  Can Nadal claim that?  Paes is super human, my friend!
