Reasonable coverage of the semis in the Hindu. According to the article, it seems Megha is going to be attending the University of Mississippi in the fall on a sports scholarship. Jay, any ideas how good or bad a team U of Miss has.
PS: Quick question. Can't a player start at a not such a great Univ do well at the college level first year ans then transfer to a better school. Any ideas if that happens or not beacuse I remember you mentioning that someone had chosen a not such a great school in tennis to go to.

Megha Vakharia went down 4-6, 4-6 against Hong Da-Jung of Korea in the final. However, there was some consolation for the Indians as the seasoned pair of Rushmi Chakravarti and Sai Jayalakshmy beat Maki Arai and Natalia Dziamidzenka in straight sets in the final to come up with the doubles crown.

Thanks for the update, Sameer. Oh well I guess she did really well this far in the tourney. Now we await Sania's result from Niger City. I hope it will be available some time tommorow. She is in the finals as well with an easy win.
See the Sania thread for details.

Dhruv: I am very glad to see Megs coming to the US. She would have got lost in the shuffle in India easily otherwise. University of Mississippi is an ideal school to come to, also. Top-50 program, right at around #40 now. More importantly, they play in a very good conference, SouthEasterm conference (with powerhouses Florida, Georgia, etc). The conference is important in making sure that one gets to play the top players. Same conference as where Manisha played (she was at U.ofTennessee). As Mississippi is not a top-10 type program, they are probably not loaded with top-50 players in the top-three spots in the team. Megs will have c hance to move to the top couple of spots in the team within a year or two, I would guess.
The SEC teams generally all play outdoors and you dn't have to deal with the really cold weather and indoors and all that.
All in all, an excellent choice by Megs!

By the way, it is the same university where Mahesh was in the men's tennis program... "Ol' Miss" as they call the univ.
