Hopefully Ram draws the other qualifier. Another win will take him to a career high ranking.

At $622K Delray Beach Open 2018, Florida, USA

[R1] Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,140) vs Donald Young (USA,75)

$5,350 guaranteed and 12 points won. Not a bad strategy at all

Donald Young has not won a match so far this year and has a 0-4 record although all of his losses are against top 50 players. Still, he would be under some pressure to do well here especially since he has SF points to defend here. RamK should play freely and go for it.

Alternatively, it may not be a bad strategy to keep the ball in play as Donald Young is someone who can get frustrated and make mistakes. Definitely, a winnable match

Yes, I watched his match against Fratengelo. RamK was playing so many low slices on the backhand side which totally disturbed the rhythm of Fratengelo and he was overhitting a lot of shots. Also RamK's big serve and net game played it's part. Many of the present day ATP players are not ready for the unconventional style of play which RamK dishes out. He only needs to be selective on coming to the net. Rushing to net on every other point will not work at this level.

Good to hear! Agree that rushing too frequently to the net at this level can be a career-ending move. I saw an earlier post where we are told that he mixed up his returns with aggressive ones especially on 2nd serve. All of this is welcome news.

RamK’s R1 match against Donald Young is the next one on Stadium Court. Should start in about an hour...

RamK can't generate power in his shots.

Guys, I don’t know how many of you will agree with me but Ramkumar seems to struggle against left handers a bit too much whenever I have seen him.

He did this against Bradley Klahn jn the Australian open qualies.

Last year against Guido Pella at the ATP Washington, he was struggling big time too whom Bhambri dispatched in straight sets.

Thanks

Wow, moving RamK around like a rag doll in the 1st game of the 2nd set. RamK has a wild slash on the return at 40-15 because he had enough of being run around.

0-2 got broken. Young murdering the 2nd serve forcing RK into a df. After 2 passing misses on BP Young nails the 3rd BP chance with a passing winner.

0-3 hold to 30 but that was only because of a df. Young picking on the backhand and with his lefty serve it is not too difficult to zone in on the bh.
