Re: AITA News .....
International tennis will finally be back in India in November with 3 men's 15K futures on calender in Indore, Delhi and Gurugram.
Must say India is the only one among Asian nations ( apart from gulf) who is moving on and hosting at least some sporting events this year. We had some tennis futures early in the year too and had shooting world Cup and hosted England test series. Rest of the Asia has just locked itself down completely for sporting events since March 20 ( exept Olympics which was too big to cancel)

Re: AITA News .....
Good that there will be 3 ITF Futures in November, albeit at the lowest level. It should give a last gasp of life to the careers of all the players mentioned in that newspaper report. Maybe Yuki Bhambri will be fit again, and possibly picking up a few points over the 3 weeks to see if he wants to revive his career.

Now 4 tournaments for women in India added in ITF calender starting from November 29- 2 15K's in Belgaluru and Solapur and 2 25K's in Pune and Navi Mumbai ( the usual ones which we used to have before covid).

Re: AITA News .....
So Indore is becoming a new hotspot for tennis, hosting its second Futures of 2021, from 8th to 15th November 2021, to be followed by those in Delhi (15th Nov onwards) and Gurugram (22nd November) onwards. Perfect time of the year to be playing tennis in north India. It would have been better to turn at least one of them into a $25K tournament though. Sensibly there will be 2 $25K Futures for women, so Ankita could benefit from those points-wise.sameerph wrote: ↑Wed Sep 22, 2021 2:09 pm International tennis will finally be back in India in November with 3 men's 15K futures on calender in Indore, Delhi and Gurugram.

Re: AITA News .....
Next year's Maharashtra Open ATP is cancelled this year too but there seem to be 3 mens challengers and 1 WTA 125 event in planning early next year which is great news for our players -
2022 ATP Maharashtra Open cancelled
2022 ATP Maharashtra Open cancelled
In fact, the MSLTA plans to host a WTA 125K Series event in Mumbai in February and two Challengers to fill the void.
The Challengers - in Pune and Nagpur - are planned to be held back-to-back in the fortnight following the Australian Open (January 17-30).

Re: ATP/ITF/WTA tournament calendar updates
Well, Maharashtra Open ATP 250 will be finally held now in the week after Australian open-
Maharashtra Open back for 2022
That is great news for Indian players. But, unfortunately there do not seem to be any challengers in the offing as of now in India in early part of the year.

Re: ATP/ITF/WTA tournament calendar updates
Even though the headline in the article say Two 80 Challenger's , the article states prize money on offer is 53k per tournament which means the tournament falls under 50 category and not 80 category.sameerph wrote: ↑Thu Dec 09, 2021 3:30 pm Ok, so there is some good news on scheduling front as KSLTA will host 2 back to back challengers in Bengaluru in 2 weeks following Maharashtra open in February-

Need to get further clarification on this.

Re: ATP/ITF/WTA tournament calendar updates
Challenger 80 tournaments have prize money of 53K.80 denotes 80 points for winner. 50 category tournaments only have prize money of 32 K.Rajiv wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 7:53 amEven though the headline in the article say Two 80 Challenger's , the article states prize money on offer is 53k per tournament which means the tournament falls under 50 category and not 80 category.sameerph wrote: ↑Thu Dec 09, 2021 3:30 pm Ok, so there is some good news on scheduling front as KSLTA will host 2 back to back challengers in Bengaluru in 2 weeks following Maharashtra open in February-

Re: ATP/ITF/WTA tournament calendar updates
So, it is confirmed that Chennai will host a WTA 250 tournament from September 26 to October 2-
Chennai returns to international tennis map with 2022 WTA 250 tour
From 2003 to 2007, a WTA tournament was held in Hyderabad and Bengaluru. Good to see the event returning to India after 15 years at another Southern city.

Re: ATP/ITF/WTA tournament calendar updates
Sameer, just curious—why add the word “Southern” city? Would it not have been enough to welcome a tournament back to India?

Re: ATP/ITF/WTA tournament calendar updates
Fantastic news! Sadly, though, Ankita Raina and Karman Kaur Thandi (the top 2 Indian players who could be potential beneficiaries of this) are ranked too low to benefit fully. Maybe a wildcard for singles will fire up Ankita to do something special in front of a partisan home crowd, or even Karman or Pranjala.
Kudos to Vijay Amritraj on fulfilling one of the promises he made a few months ago. The ATP tournament in Chennai is the next miracle we can hope for from the maestro.

Re: ATP/ITF/WTA tournament calendar updates
It's amazing that there are no Futures played on grass any more in the UK. Basically there is no ladder for players to rise up the ranks through grass court skills.
India could try to address this lacuna by hosting a bunch of grass Futures (in Kolkata's South Club, Delhi's Gymkhana Club, Lucknow and Chandigarh) during the winter months, and a Futures and Challenger(s) in Bengaluru in May-June (as an alternative to the clay season). That way, players wanting to tune up on grass from around the world could come to India and get ready for the 3-week ATP grass swing before Wimbledon. An idea for @Sunil Yajaman to consider!

Re: ATP/ITF/WTA tournament calendar updates
Chennai WTA is now confirmed on WTA calender but a bit change in earlier announced dates. Now, it will start on September 12, the day after US open. It is in same week as 2 other tournaments in Japan and Slovenia.sameerph wrote: ↑Sun May 15, 2022 5:44 am So, it is confirmed that Chennai will host a WTA 250 tournament from September 26 to October 2-
