ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

Post by puneets »

Why are we discussing Davis Cup matches in the ATP section ?

Can't we have a separate thread for Davis Cup involving other countries other than India.

btw. Switzerland were too good for the Brits..defeated them 3-0.

Chile is crushing Pakistan (2-0) up and leading the doubles 6-1, 6-3

If we have threads for ATP and WTA, why not a thread for Davis Cup involving countries other than India. The thread will sink or swim based on the interest of the forum members.

We can have it but hardly there are 10 posts about Davis Cup played by other countries! That is the max. we can get I guess. I don't see a reason to start a thread.

Sandeep,

We already have quite a few posts about the Pakistan-Chile Davis Cup tie in the Asian thread, and a few about the UK-Switzerland tie.

I prefer to keep the focus of Sports-India at Indian sports, but I do not mind new threads to emerge that do not deal with sports in India. My two cents worth. :D

Definitely, if you people think that a new thread can "swim" and there are good number of people interested in discussing Davis cup played by other countries then I think we can start.

But my feeling is we here are more interested in performances of Aqeel, Aisam etc than performance of Pakistan as a country. In that case it is ok to discuss in players thread. I am more interested in Roddick's performance than What USA did!

Sandeep/Puneet

Here is another suggestion.

Rename the ATP thread - ATP/non-India Davis Cup, and start discussing ATP and Davis Cup (except India) in that thread. If there is enough Davis Cup related traffic then we can start a new thread for Davis Cup and move those posts into that thread.

What do you think?

Hey, I have no problem what so ever. Puneets, if you think it is good to have a seperate Davis cup thread, go ahead and start it. I will move all the posts there.

A Roddick-Nadal hardcourt match would be a 50/50 encounter that would definitley go the distance.
I sincierly hope they play sometime in near future. I donlt why everyone is so excited about Nadal on Hard. That guy in the whole year except for Agassi and Coria doesn't have a single top victory on surfaces other than clay :damn: .

I absolutely believe that quote, Sandeep. Agreed that on clay, Nadal is miles ahead of the rest. But I think he had sent enough signals to indicate that he can be a handful to the top guys on hardcourts as well. Here are his results on hardcourts this year ....

Doha - Lost in QF to Ljubicic in a close 3 setter
Auckland - Lost in the first round to Hrbaty
Aus Open - Lost to Hewitt in the 4th round in a tough 5 setter
Miami - Lost to Federer in the finals in 5 sets. (had match points)
Motreal - Winner
Cincinnnati - Lost in the first round in a close 3 setter to Berdych. Two of those sets, including the decider, went to tie-breaks
US Open - Lost in 4 sets in the 4th round to Blake
Beijing - Winner

Now tell me, don't you think he is exciting enough on hardcourts?

You remind me so much of myself a few years ago, when I was absolutely obsessed with Roddick :D Don't get me wrong, I still like him a lot. But he was good only in patches this year and definitely needs to go back to the drawing board if he really wants to be a force again to reckon with. I really hope he does that and lives up to the hype of rivalry between him and Federer that was created a couple of years ago.

I didn't say Nadal is bad on Hard courts. Definitely he is a top 6 or 7 guy. BUt there are few who can beat Nadal any day out there. Roddick is one of them. Hewitt and Safin (if he is in right mood) are the other two.

Sandeep has just been bitter all year about Roddick because he has come to the realization that he is just a one slam wonder .

On that note he has been equally hostile towards Nadal, because he has stolen a bit of Roddick's thunder this year (as well as Hewitt's and Safin's,) and is another hurdle in the way of Roddick.

Daniel Nestor continues to be the Candian Leander Paes of Davis Cup. Another doubles specialist who comes up with the goods in singles for the country. A couple of years ago he beat Guga in Canada's amazing upset of Brazil to go to enter the World Group. Now it looks like they might be going to the World Group again. The tie could actually have been wrapped up by now if Nestor didnt have to retire from the second singles rubber in which he went toe to toe with Max Mirnyi. But he bounced back strong in the doubles today, and I like Canada's chances of winning one of the final two matches to head back to the World Group.

 I should consider Nadal good enough to pose a threat to Roddick for me to feel hostile/jealous and all.

You guys will come to know what I am saying when Roddick faces Nadal. You guys have no idea of what a massacare it would be :) . Poor Nadal.

I am going to post all Ashish's comments on Roddick's website and inspire him :) .
