Re: WTA Tour/Non-India Fed Cup
Halep deserves this maiden title more than anybody else after playing 2 very tough matches & after saving so many match points.

Have I underestimated Caroline Wozniacki! She has tremendous defensive skill.

Re: WTA Tour/Non-India Fed Cup
Caroline Wozniacki lifted her first singles grand slam title at AO 2018, she defeated Simona Halep in entertaining match, 76(2) 36 64.
So with this win Wozniacki will be regained #1 position.

Finally one women's no 1 who has won a slam. After Serena there seems to be a vacuum.

I think after Serena, we have had Venus and Sharapova. But now that they are not at the top of their game, the lesser ones Kerber, Muguruza, and now Wozniacki are vying to fill the void.

Venus serena and Sharapova are contemporaries. Serena lasted longer. After that no one

After that, there is Kerber and Muguruza. And, now Wozniacki. All have been #1 and all have won GS tournaments. If you say after Serena, that has been only a year or so. So, you can't expect them to win 10 slams in one year. One of these or someone else will emerge. I do not know what your before/after definition is but I'd throw in Azarenka too. World #1 for 51 weeks and slams.

The women's final was excellent from start to finish. Wozniacki effectively won it with some spectacular play in the last two points of the match. Until those two points, both players had won 108 points each!

What a performance by Danielle Collins. A qualifier makes the semis of Miami beating Venus; and not just beating her but overpowering her. Amazing backhand cross court. So calm under pressure when faced with the win and held her nerve without any problem. Don't know much about her but I heard she is a product of college tennis which just goes to show how strong college tennis is in the USA.

Sloane Stephens found the extra couple of gears that had been missing since her USO triumph, and again came from nowhere to take the title.

Re: WTA Tour/Non-India Fed Cup
Just utterly outrageous that Serena Williams is not only unseeded, she doesn't even receive a wild card into the main draw -- and has to use her protected ranking to play at the French Open. She gets to play Krystina Pliskova, the twin sister of Karolina Pliskova in R1, which is not such a bad draw. Then Barty (seeded 17th) in R2.

Re: WTA Tour/Non-India Fed Cup
She has not done anything in the preceding tournaments to show that she is back in fitness and form. Let us see. Anyway, the draw is not bad --- in that she is not clashing with someone top-notch in an early round. So, all should be well.
