Halep does it. Finally. I am not a big fan of hers but would have felt bad if she blew it again.

Re: WTA Tour/Non-India Fed Cup
In the last 7 GS finals, we have had seven different players win. Kerber, Serena, Ostapenko, Muguruza, Stephens, Woz, Halep. It's almost as if Serena went away to have a baby or something. And, among the active players you have Kuznetsova, Schiavone, Sharapova, Stosur, Azarenka, Kvitova, Venus. Has there been ever a time when there were 14 women's GS title winners active? Have I missed anyone?

It is partly because Serena took a break. If you analyze the semi-finalists, you will always get many more names.

The women's final was a treat. And, although I don't particularly like her game (especially her screaming), Halep certainly deserved the title, after that epic fight-back from the middle of the second set. Stephens was just a slight bit too passive (ie, not staying aggressive enough) after the first set, and she paid the price.

Re: WTA Tour/Non-India Fed Cup
Serena got seeded #25 at Wimbledon. The decision is flat out wrong! She should have been seeded more like #12 or #13 so that she does not face a top seed before the pre-quarterfinals. But, I guess it is what it is.

Re: WTA Tour/Non-India Fed Cup
Odd decision. Perhaps motivated by the fact that she made R3 at the French Open. I think she should have been seeded in the top-8, given that she was #1 when her pregnancy-related break began. In the spirit of pregnancy-protected rankings, she should have been at least among the top-8 seeds.

I would have been fine with #8. Anyway, seems like she got an easy-ish draw.

Halep and Pliskova left in the top 10. And then Kerber and Ostapenko. Grass is under-represented in the tennis calendar. So, lots of people can have great ranks without knowing how to play on grass (and a few had bad days too).

Re: WTA Tour/Non-India Fed Cup
The top 6 seeds, and the holders of all 4 Slam titles (Muguruza, Stephens, Wozniacki and Halep) are out of the women’s singles!
Serena’s possible SF opponent is Pliskova, while Ostapenko and Kerber could play the other SF. So the previous round of Slam winners is still alive (Serena was the holder of 2 coming into the 2017 Wimbledon, Ostapenko and Kerber held the other two Slam titles; Pliskova had won none of course).

Re: WTA Tour/Non-India Fed Cup
Serena is #28 in the live singles rankings already, and Kerber is 6th. To have seeded Serena 25th was sort of appropriate, but she will surpass that ranking if she wins the finally tomorrow. Kerber, interestingly, had a slump in form while Serena was out, but has come back now that Serena is back. Let's see if she can stay with Serena in the final!

Re: WTA Tour/Non-India Fed Cup
It will be an amazing battle between the two seventeen year-olds, with amazing junior careers, Anastasia Potapova and Olga Danilovic. Although not that uncommon on the WTA side, but truly seeing this after a long time
Hope there'll be a day when another Indian teen makes a WTA final and recreates those waves from 2005 again.

The World #1 won at the Aussie Open Quarters. It is high-time the rankings are updated to reflect the true world #1.

Re: WTA Tour/Non-India Fed Cup
Completely new and surprising line-up of semifinalists at the French Open. Again, the churn in the women's game continues. 17 year old Amanda Anisimova (born in New Jersey) is perhaps the next big thing in women's tennis (having won the US Open junior title when she was 15). The youngest player in the top-100, she is already ranked 51, and will rise to the top-20 after this; deservedly so, having beaten holder Halep. (Much like McEnroe in 1977, only a year younger than he was). Vondrousova is 19. The other 2 semifinalists are Ashley Barty (8th seed, although still seen by many as a doubles specialist) and Johanna Konta (seeded 26, the Brit of Hungarian descent). Can the remaining seeds stop the surging youngsters?
And whatever happened to Ostapenko, the unstoppable one of two years ago??!
