2015 year end rankings - mens singles - (with last year's ranking in brackets)

93 Bhambri, Yuki (249)
170 Myneni, Saketh (264)
180 Somdev Devvarman (138)
248 Ramkumar Ramanathan (241)
278 Singh, Sanam (417)
379 Prashanth, N Vijay Sundar (560)
416 Sumit Nagal (1569)
425 Nedunchezhiyan, Jeevan (390)
483 Gunneswaran, Prajnesh (1401)
485 Vardhan, Vishnu (652)

Overall depth has improved with all the top 10 players now in top 500.

The big movers are of course at top with Yuki making his move to top 100 and Saketh to top 200 decisively. Others lower down like Sanam and VSP have also improved a lot in the rankings. The ones who have been stagnant or regressed were Somdev, RamK , Jeevan and Balaji ( who dropped out of top 10).
The new entrant to the top 10 was Sumit Nagal and Prajnesh makes a comeback to top 10.

Apart from Yuki and Saketh, expecting young guns, RamK and Sumit to make some real progress next year.

Also couple of youngster below top 10, 18 year old Sasi Kumar Mukund (now ranked 553) and 19 year old Ronit Bisht ( now ranked 671) have made good progress. Expecting them to make a strong claim to enter top 500 and top 10 next year.

Considering ages and other stuff, definitely Yuki, Saketh, Ramk, Sumit are the ones to look out for next year. Also I wouldn't give up on Somdev yet with another push towards top-100, this time with experience; however I felt it would been greater had he just focused on the off season with his new coach and trainer instead of the mavericks. Similar case with Yuki, where it would have been cool if he had gone for the challenger tour finals and made great use of this off season solving his coach issue, rather than just spectating the iptl. I feel RamK and Sumit have a plan which is apt for their current ranking and overall management for these two looks better

From earlier in this thread, significant improvement in our top-10 from where we were 10 years ago. We had none in the top-200 and only 5 in the top-500. Perhaps, some of the progress is due to having more tournaments at home but overall our standards appear to have improved with a significant jump from last year to this year as well.

ATP Singles Rankings (as of Nov 21st, 2005)

226 Mankad Harsh 162
268 Amritraj Prakash 127
303 Bopanna Rohan 112
368 Rastogi Karan 84
416 Sipaeya Sunil Kumar 67
503 Uppal Vishal 49
609 Sridhar Vinod 34
677 Kannan Vijay 26
790 Ramaswami Ajay 17
791 Shokeen Vivek 17

True, in terms of depth of talent, we probably are in the best phase after quite a few years.

The ATP site has historical rankings going back to 1980's and few years before the year you quoted (2005) was even worse. At the end of 2000 and 2001, there was only 1 player ( Leander Paes ) in top 500. Before that for many years there were only 2 or 3. This probably the best period since after 1970's when we had a clutch of players in top 200.

We need some work to go back to that level but it is better than anytime in last 20-30 years. Now, to get 2-3 players in top 100 and 6-7 in top 200 should be the next aim.

These are our doubles top 10 year end rankings.

2015 year end rankings - mens doubles - (with last year's ranking in brackets)

9 Rohan Bopanna (30)
41 Leander Paes (29)
93 Purav Raja (135)
126 Saketh Myneni (154)
134 Divij Sharan (119)
210 Sanam Singh (166)
211 Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan (265)
241 Yuki Bhambri (180)
286 Ramkumar Ramanathan (274)
307 Somdev Devvarman (337)

Good news is Rohan Bopanna back in top 10 and Purav Raja back in top 100. Both of them benefitted from getting a steady partner. The same did not happen in case of Leander and Divij and they suffered. Since, Rohan emerged on the doubles scene, we did not have a player breaking out into top 50 or better. With Mahesh almost out and Leander on his last legs, we badly need a couple of players to do that so that we can at least carry forward our doubles successes on tour.

Purav and Divij so far have not able to really break out.

I think Saketh/ Sanam/Somdev/Yuki have the doubles talent to do that but they are more focussed on their singles career and rightly so.

This week most of our players failed to defend their points. Thus they are sliding down the ranking, Somdev being the worst.
In the live rankings, the top 5 are:
107. Yuki Bhambri
167. Saketh Myneni
212. Ramkumar Ramanathan
276. Somdev Devvarman
291. Sanam Singh

Yes, for Yuki the injury is a concern if it persists -- otherwise he will likely move up this year. Reminds me a little of Somdev in the spring of 2011 when he was playing at his best but then had a shoulder injury and never came to the same level of play after that.

RamK is still young but really needs to have consistent results at the challenger level this year to move up.

Saketh might just become the Indian number 1 at this rate. Maybe Anand could give some time-off to Somdev and Yuki and let him and RamK play live rubbers

These are our top 10 singles rankings as of 22.2.2016-

107 Bhambri, Yuki
158 Myneni, Saketh
213 Ramkumar Ramanathan
279 Somdev Devvarman
294 Singh, Sanam
413 Prashanth, N Vijay Sundar
416 Nedunchezhiyan, Jeevan
421 Sumit Nagal
429 Gunneswaran, Prajnesh
437 Vardhan, Vishnu

Somdev is in a free fall down to 279 and is India no. 4 now. In fact the only 3 players who have had a good time this year and managed to improve on their year are Saketh, RamK and Prajnesh. Others have struggled so far.

In comparative terms, Vishnu has improved by 50 spots as well. Not a bad start for him. But I am not confident on how many tournaments he is willing to play outside India.

Updating the top 10 doubles rankings for our players there has been some significant movement this week-

13 Rohan Bopanna
54 Leander Paes
106 Purav Raja
116 Saketh Myneni
129 Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan
139 Divij Sharan
169 Mahesh Bhupathi
228 Yuki Bhambri
261 Sanam Singh
299 N. Sriram Balaji

Leander has gained a few places while Rohan has dropped a few. We now have 6 players in top 150 with Mahesh close behind. I think except Saketh and Yuki in that list, others should now focus on doubles as for Jeevan, Sanam and Bala their singles career is going nowhere. Others are already doubles specialists.

The person with top-20 potential in doubles is Yuki. Of course, he also has top-50 potential in singles, so I'd be loath to suggest he switch to a doubles focus, but if his injuries continue to recur (and tennis elbow may be a chronic injury based on repetitive impact), he may have a better chance at playing longer in doubles as he will have to hit considerably fewer balls than in singles.
