I believe the race rankings are from the last cut off for the year end rankings, so it is for results from November last year. This mix has a larger number of results from India and Asia and that is helping our standings. Fully agree that our top players are doing better looking at the quality of their wins which should translate to better results especially in the hard Court season for our players...

Except neither of those things can be found in China. They are just Indian dishes. There is nothing Manchurian about Gobi Manchurian, and it is also not from the Gobi desert area :)

The typical Indian palate will not find much to like in the cuisine in most of China. The Southern Chinese (Szechwan) cuisine is the spicier variant which is likely more appealing to . Some may like the sweeter variant of the Shanghainese cuisine. As Jay noted, the cuisine in China isn't anything like Indian Chinese or American Chinese.

Given how well the Indians are doing, it's likely they have the food figured out. My trips to China were all business trips, so didn't really explore the other ethnic options outside of the ornate Chinese dinners or western food at the hotels. I wonder if they have Indian restaurants near some of the larger cities/venues?

I would agree with the general sentiment and not extrapolate too much from the race rankings.

All the South Korean young talents are significantly outperforming their actual ranking in the race (with Chung at #6), Japan has 8 players within the top 200 vs 5 in the rankings.

There are just a lot more tournaments in Asia from November until April.

In fact, even the word "Manchuria" has vanished from China. I find young people know "Manchukuo" (the Japanese name for the region) as a historical artifact, but they don't know the term "Manchuria" (the three provinces are now just known as "northeastern China", with the Manchus almost thoroughly ethnically-cleansed from the area).

Mukund has jumped from India #8 three weeks ago to India #6 now -- ranked 390 in the live rankings, with India #5 Arjun Kadhe also at a career-high of 373 now. Saketh is #7 at 441, while VSP is India #8 at 466.

I can't wait for the day when our top 10 players are all in the top 500.

Top 10 in top 500 is not such a big thing. We had it in the year end rankings as on end 2015 and in early part of 2016.

I would like to have top 2 in top 100, top 5 in top 200 and top 10 in top 400 by end of the year. I think achievable if the current form of our players is sustained till end of the year.

I had forgotten that we did achieve that earlier. Thanks Sameer for pointing that out. Then, the ante is higher.

These are our WTA top 10 rankings as of today-

187 Ankita Raina (CH)
254 Karman Thandi (CH)
445 Rutuja Bhosale (CH)
447 Pranjala Yadlapalli (CH)
636 Riya Bhatia
665 Zeel Desai
670 Kanika Vaidya
689 Dhruti Venugopal
841 Mahak Jain
843 Snehadevi Reddy

So, we are clearly on upswing on womens side too as all our top 4 are at their career high (and all 4 in top 500 which we have not seen for quite some time at least). Karman is on the verge of top 250 , Rutuja temporarily takes over India #3 spot but Pranjala will overtake her next week when her Spain 25K QF points are added.

There are our top 10 ATP singles rankings as of today. As this almost the end of first 6 months of the year, I am putting 2017 year end ranking in bracket to know the progress.

85 Bhambri, Yuki (116)
125 Ramkumar Ramanathan (148)
165 Gunneswaran, Prajnesh (243)
239 Sumit Nagal (223)
362 Saketh Myneni (620)
366 Arjun Kadhe (610)
386 Sasi Kumar Mukund (426)
524 Prashanth, N Vijay Sundar (526)
530 Siddharth Rawat (542)
669 Karunuday Singh(597)

Glad that except Sumit, all of our top 7 players have made progress in the rankings. Prajnesh is the one with best progress. I hope top 7 are within top 300 by end of the year with top 5 in top 200 and 2 in top 100.

Prerna Bhambri was doing pretty well a few years back, surprisingly she isnt in the mix now. Seems like she decided to spend less time on Tennis and focus on other things.

Good to see the depth in the top 100 for doubles. However, none in the top 20 is something we aren't used to in recent times.
