Is Indian businessman buying F1 team?
Yes Industrialist Vijay Mallya hinted his intention of buying F1 team at Turkish GP ... But it's still premature and early to say any concrete on this subject.
Check his interview regarding this - Mallya hints at buying out a Formula One team

Immediately all print media published this takeover of Spykar F1 team by Vijay Mallya and Mol family, which is a 50:50 stake, is worth 90 million Euros (Rs 50,39,100,000).
As per report,

Great news - if this is finalised and stays for a while, it will be the best thing for Indian motorsports. We will then have our own team where we can give openings at the highest to our most talented drivers instead of begging in front of other teams.

Hmm ... Suresh, check this article regarding ur query by Sukhwant Basra.
Mallya’s Spyker will have to woo Narain
Mallya’s Spyker will have to woo Narain
As of now the driver (Karthikeyan) holds the stronger hand as he is no longer desperate to be out on track, the package and car performance are crucial motivators. For cash strapped Spyker — to be rechristened with India figuring in the name — Karthikeyan can bring in the big kitty of about $10 million that his sponsors can put up for the drive.
Of the 193 brands that featured on F1 cars in 2005 when Karthikeyan was driving for Jordan, Tata placed 58 in terms of visibility. Tata’s total exposure that season was five minutes and forty seconds and its media value is put at a phenomenal $4,258,115.This comprised only the race feed and the exposure in the Indian media does not even figure in this equation. Tata’s sponsorship expense was to the tune of $3.5 million.
As such, corporate India already knows that an Indian in F1 is a win-win situation as far as cost-benefit of brand publicity goes. That’s exactly the vein that Mallya will be looking to tap to raise the approximate $150 million annual budget needed to reshape Spyker into at least a mid-rung team.

latest interview with Mallya
http://www.formula1.com/news/interviews ... /6752.html
According to the interview it looks like the team is going to have lot of indian influence, eventhough its a 50/50 partnership !

Re: Indian F1 Team
Jaydeep, Good that you have mentioned Dollar value in brackets. I first got confused whether one can buy an F1 team for mere 88 Euros and later seen the dollar value and realised it is actually 88 Million Euro.jaydeep wrote: In further development Spyker Cars NV is agree to sell its loss-making Formula One team to Vijay Mallya and Mol family for 88 euros ($123 million)

Re: Indian F1 Team
Waiting anxiously now to hear some news on an indian driver racing for them next year Hope it happens as there have been conflicting reports. Kinda get the feeling that Mallya is more inclined towards Karun than Narain. What do u all gather?
To me that's not bad either. Karun is now stepping up by doing well in the past 2 GP2 races and might already be considered ready to take the big step. On the other hand, Narain seems to be very competitive by the looks of things in A1 GP. There, he has atleast got a realistic chance of fighting for the top positions, which will be far more interesting, atleast for us, than him fighting for the last few places with Spyker as he was doing a couple of years back. For Karun, it could be a good learning experience as he is much younger and has got time in his hand.

I think its almost official, the team name is FORCE INDIA..thats the new name unless the other teams object to it, i dont see why they would.
Seeing India in the name makes me proud, but this has to be a big gamble. They are going to loose almost all the fans out side India. The Team may get good sponsorship as many companies would love the mass market in India.
