The love affair does extract its price. Every time Gill tries to board a plane, the metal detector goes into overdrive. There are sixteen screws in his frame; 12 hold his ankle together while four reforged his left wrist. The former came from a horrific accident in his third motorcycle rally.
Big day for JK. Karun won both the races and in Bangalore K-1000 rally Gaurav S Gill and Farooq Ahmed won the third round of the National Rallyl CHampionship.
Mrf's Karandeep and Jaidas Menon who finished second, took the overall lead in the Championship dethroning defending champ Naren Kumar from the pedestal. (Naren is now in the third place)
Arjun Balu finished third along with codriver R Kumar.
This year's National Rally will begin in Kochi in another 15 days, but National champion JK Tyre has pulled out of the seven-round championship.
Hindu article wrote:The sport's soaring cost seems to be the reason. "They have brought in new regulations and specifications which make the sport very expensive. The MAI (Motorsports Association of India) has introduced the Group N-Plus (fully modified cars category) this season, so the cost almost doubles. And they now have (points from) three cars for the National Championship, instead of the usual two. So, we'll have to run at least five cars to be in the race for the championship," explained Mr. Sharma.
The MAI also doesn't give the teams time to settle down with the new regulations, feels Mr. Sharma. "World over, regulations are put in place an year in advance, here they give us a few months."
