Williams is not the place to be. Williams is a team thats falling (lost BMW thne HP and 1 more sponser) and have no clue what they are doing (they have Wurz as third driver while Rosberg jr. is the 2nd driver). Unfortunately he has no other options but to go to Williams. He will probbably end up as one of those who only stay as a race dricver for a year.

Yeah even if he tests this year, i dont see him getting a race seat in future. But it would be good if he can get another year, that way he has a chance of racing in the GP Masters later on

Looks like NK is finally accepting the second test driver role with WILLIAMS. Its better than having no role in F1.....Good luck NK and maybe with some luck get an opportunity to sneak in a drive...

Yep. Narain has accepted the second test drive with Williams. Here is the article in Hindu titled WilliamsF1 confirms Narain as fourth driver http://www.hindu.com/2006/01/27/stories ... 361800.htm

No hints about any possible Friday testing role later on in the season. This is definitely better than being out of the F1 for the 2006 season....

No friday role yet. Now that his contract seems sorted, I'll try and talk to Tema Narain in greater detail to see if I can get any more info.

What exactly does the fourth driver do -- carry the water bottle? Seriously, can someone explain
to me what is the role that NK will play ?

The fourth driver is the test driver who basically helps them develop the car over the course of the year. The 3rd and the 4th drivers are responsible for the car development for the most part. Most top teams do not actually have a 3rd driver slot on Fridays on the racetrack either. It is only for teams that finished lower than 4th in the team standings. The concept is that the test/development driver can help the slower teams better set up the car for a circuit to better compete with the faster teams. Ferrari as you will notice does not have a third driver on Friday and has not had one for a while but all the test and development work is done by Luca Badoer and Marc Gene the 3rd and 4th drivers for Ferrari.

The 3rd driver can though step in in case one of the top 2 drivers has an incident. The 4th will only step in for a race slot if two drivers are incapacitated.
