David Coulthard (4th highst point scorer EVER)

Post by jaydeep »

After sacking Tony Purnell and David Pitchforth (Managing Director and Team Manager of Jaguar) just 8 weeks before the season starter at Melbourne by RedBull owner, many journalist feeling this would not be smooth ride for David Coulthard ... All r predicitng tough time ahead for scot in RedBull.

DC needs 14 more points to move to number 4 in total points

1 name not needed 1186
2 Prost 798.5
3 Senna 614
4 Piquet 485.5
5 Mansell 482
6 GODs gift to F1 (DC) 472
7 Barrichello 451
8 Laudi 420.5
9 Hakkinen 420
10 Berger 386

by the end of the season he will be no. 10 in tottal GP starts

and 2 more podiums will put him at no 4

1 name not needed 137
2 Prost 106
3 Senna 80
4 Piquet 60
5 GODs gift to F1(DC) 59
6 Mansell (59)
7 Barrichello (57)
8 Lauda 54
9 Hakkinen 51
10 Berger 48

look at the greats behind him including former team mate (supposedly better than DC) Mika Hakkinen

He would be lucky to get either of those (14 points or 2 podiums) this season and hence ever.

As for the comparison with Hakkinen, I think he's driven atleast 50% more races than Mika.

That is completly false Coulthard (GODS GIFT TO F1) has competed in 175 F1 races while Hakkinen has competed in 165 F1 races.

DC (GODS GIFT TO F1) started his F1 carrear in Williams in 1994 after the tragic death of Senna while Hakkinen started his F1 carrear in 1991 with Lotus-Judd. Hakkinen last drove a F1 car in 2001, being in the sport a year less than David (GODS GIFT TO F1).

Exactly. Williams is almost always on the podium, Lotus Judd not much needs to be said :-) He had many more opportunities to be on the podium. Ruebens is probably going to end up pretty high on that list as well and no-one will say that he is a great driver by any stretch, almost exactly the same applies to DC.

Hakkinen was in McLaren 2 years later and when DC got the chance to race in 1994, he only participated in 8 races.

2 years = how many races . If you subtract those from Hakkinen see what numbers (winning%) you get and make your own conclusions.

if you are subtracting these Mika gets 135 and DC would be on 165; but there is no point subtracting ... you might as well removethe races where the car failed the driver or the someone else caused a collision with the driver ..... at the end of the day DC has raced in only 10 more races than Hakkinen

I would rather see DC retired rather than tailing along in F1. With redbull, he'll be lucky to get a point somewhere. He has had enough chances to lift that championship and he can't get do it now as top teams are not going to choose him. So, go and retire DC, unless you like the sacking better than retiring.

Using that logic why should Narian enter F1, he is unlikely to get more than 2 points?

Well both DC and Narain hope to do the same thing. Have bigger teams pick them up next year. Narain has a better shot than DC just because DC has been there and teams don't seem to want him anymoew. However, DC might also be angling for a testing role in the future with a big player which is why this year makes sense for him where he will be helping develop a new car. If he proves valuable in that regard he could have a job in the future.

DC would probably want to settle in Red Bull for a couple of years and then move on to McLaren test driver

With only a week till the start of hte new season it will be interesting to see where DC fits in in this new car. Australia being one of his 3 favourtie tracks (monaco and GBR are the other 2), he should get into the points in this new car if he hopes to stick around in 2006.
