Jeev is the top Indian golfer now

Post by ajay »

Congratulations to Jeev to become #1 Indian golf player. With an excellent performance in Smurfit Kappa European Open, where he finished T4, Jeev has accumalated enough ranking points to go past Jyoti Randhawa. Jeev's world ranking after this event is 144. While Jyoti is world # 159. IMO Jeev has now come close to his best ranking although I don't exactly know what was his best ranking earlier.

Jeev earned 9.94 points last week. However, he will be dropping at least 8 points next week from his Volvo China Open victory, plus little more from other tournaments. Therfore, until Jeev compes up with another superb performance to compensate the point he'll drop, he is set to fall few spots in the ranking next week.

Current Ranking as of July 10

Vijay Singh 3
Jeev Milkha Singh 144
Jyoti Randhawa 159
Shiv Kapur 176
Arjun Atwal 177
Daniel Chopra 181
Dinesh Chand 211
Gaurav Ghei 413
Amandeep Johl 468
Ashok Kumar 587
Digvijay Singh 748
Arjun Singh 751
Rahil Gangjee 766
Harmeet Kahlon 993
Rahul Ganapathy 1053
Mukesh Kumar 1076

The good performance by the trio of Jyoti Randhawa, Shiv Kapur and Jeev Milkha Singh last week enabled them to improve their world ranking. While Jyoti and Shiv finished T22 in EPGA Deutsche Bank Players Championship, Jeev finished T8 in Japan Golf Tournament in Omaezaki. Jeev reaches his best ranking for many years as he becomes World # 141 and he remains top Indian national golfer. Shiv, with a jump of 9 ranking spots, overtook Arjun Atwal and Daniel Chopra this week to go to 175. Jyoti Randhawa who has been losing ranking spots for last many weeks, reversed the trend this week as he gained 4 spots to go to 160.

Daniel(177) did not play last week and lost just two spots from his previous week rank. But Arjun, who missed a chance for a great result, lost 11 spots in world ranking from the last week as he goes to #194.

The current rankings as of July 31st are:

Vijay Singh
Jeev Milkha Singh
Jyoti Randhawa
Shiv Kapur
Daniel Chopra
Arjun Atwal
Dinesh Chand
Gaurav Ghei

Another good week for Jeev as he finishes T8 and he is back to his best ranking this year at 141. In between, he slipped a little in ranking and was just out of top 150 (he was 151) for a week.

But the real improvement in ranking was by Rahil Gangjee with his great result last week. He move up by 120 spots to go to world # 477.

The latest ranking as of Sep. 25th are:

Vijay Singh
Jeev Milkha Singh
Jyoti Randhawa

An excellent last week by some of the Indian golfers was bound to show up in the ranking improvement. Gaurav Ghei and Rahil Gangjee with a finish of top 2 in Taiwan leap by 175 and 144 spots. Jeev Milkha Singh consolidates his #1 posiion with another top 10 moves inches up by 3spots to 138 - his best ranking in many many years. Jyoti with a creditable finish in WGC also moves up to close in with Jeev, just 5 spots behind. Seems like in following weeks we will see a rivalry between Jeev and Jyoti for top Indian golfer title.

The latest ranking as of October. 2nd are:

Daniel is in a roll. He improves his ranking once again with his best performance of his career. Daniel with this performance gets ahead of Jyoti Randhawa and Jeev Milkha Singh, (who is technically still the best Indian in rankings) Rest all stay put within small range of their last week rankings.

Jyoti reclaims #1 spot for Indian national golf players in style after a fabulous performance in Indian Open at Delhi Golf Club. He is also now very close to top 100 ranking as he climbed 44 spots to reach WR 102. Congratulations Jyoti!!

So the contest between Jeev and Jyoti is on. Jeev will have another chance to reclaim the Indian # 1title this week as he plays in the prestegious European season ending Volvo Masters at Club de Golf Valderrama.

But the big gainer in World Ranking this week is S.S.P. Chowrasia. After I wrote about S.S.P. as a "new revealation" in the Asian Tour thread, I saw Jyoti's statement on S.S.P. as the find of the year. It is nice to see number of Indians giving creditble performances swelling. And that is reflected in the rankings too. Here are the rankings for this week.

Jeev with his 2nd victory in European tour breaks the record of best ever world ranking by an Indian as he jumps to WR77, one better than the previous record held by Jyoti Randhawa in March 2005. Jeev also becomes second Indian to break the top 100. With Jyoti just outside 100, we have a real possibility of having two Indians in top 100 in near future.
The Indian # 1 spot changed hands once again this week as Jeev takes the spot back from Jyoti(WR 105).

Re: Golf World Rankings - November 8, 2006

Jeev improves on his Indian Record as he goes to 73 with 2nd finish in Japan last week. Gaurav and Rahil also improve by few spots to make their new personal marks.

Next week is important for Indians. With a high profile HSBC tournament in Asia, the some of the Indians gets a good chance to create new records. A good performance by Jeev this week can further raise his ranking and bring him closer to his targeted rank 50. A good performance by Jyoti can bring two Indian in top 100 simultaneously for the first time in Indian history.

Here are the current rankings.

For the first time in Indian history, we have two Indian players in the top 100. Jyoti breaks into top hundered for the 3rd time in his career and hopefully he'll continue to remain there. Jeev, who is enjoying his first run into top 100, goes fora new high at WR70. Gaurav Ghei also scales a new height in his career as he comes close to breaking the top 200 barrier.

Here are the current rankings.
