Belgium thrashed Australia 6-2 to go to the top of the table. We have our task cut out against Belgium tomorrow (31st July). We have lost our recent matches to Belgium, but I hope the team will channel memories from this FIH Pro League match from 13 months ago, won 5-1 by India:

Top-8 ranked teams are going to be the 8 quarterfinalists.

ssp has this happened in recent history. Seems like there is a clear chasm between the top-8 and the rest now.

A day's rest for both teams before the India v Belgium match on 1st August at 10am local time. This match is vitally important, and let's hope that NZ opens its account (points-wise) against Australia to make it even easier for us. NZ won the 1976 gold after India had been humiliated in the group game 1-6 against Australia (the nadir of Indian hockey in many minds, the year after we won the World Cup on natural turf; the 1976 Montreal Olympics were the first on astro-turf).

In Group A, Germany beats Netherlands 1-0 and goes to the top of the table. Really do not know what will be the order in that group.

Based on past results, just feel either Spain or Germany will be better for us. In a way it is good that Australia and Belgium is in our group as these are the 2 teams against whom we have struggled most of late.

1-1 now in the third quarter. Hendickx, their key player, has been ousted with a green card. But that cynical tackle did the job for his team. A brilliant attack launched by Abhishek, with Manpreet heading into the Belgian D was stopped by that foul tackle outside the D.

1-2 after Belgium score again -- amid a crazy goalmouth melee after a brilliant save by Sreejesh. Off the deflection, someone should have just cleared (or even Sreejesh could have hit it out to concede a long corner). But somehow the Belgians managed to get the ball past the goal-line amid the confusion.

Played much better hockey and showed the team is actually peaking at the right time... 2-2 would have been fair result... Last minute PC saved by a whisker

That referral was interesting. The defender used a bit of his arm (rather than stick) to bunt that away, so it should have been a penalty stroke. But the referral didn't result in the decision being overturned.
