Like BCCI ,we fund the IHF to a large extent with "Hero" hoardings at the majors and repeated hosting of important events in Orrisa.

If it was China, the first thing they do in any situation , be it a diplomatic or a sporting issue, go for the economics, choke the money and automatically all falls in place.

Same way something on lines if withdrawing some sponsorship with a clear indication that until the umpiring bias is clearly addressed and eliminated which has been firmly entrenched in the system, if not let them search for Carslberg, Coca-Cola to fund them.

Umpiring bias has been a big issue for decades. At these games, I feel the standards have been even worse than usual. The English get precedence of course, followed by the Australia and NZ. On the world stage, the Dutch get in ahead of the Oceanic countries, with Germany and Belgium just a notch below. After the other European teams, it'll be Argentina. We are always treated the worst.

Ghana, Pakistan and of course, india got the worst decisions. A Pakistani player got hit on the cheek with a raised stick (dangerous play and a yellow card) but Scotland got the free hit! A Ghanaian player got bundled over by Shipperly of Wales and got a yellow. Mandeep got pulled up for a slightly raised ball, a minute later a Welsh player hit a dangerous ball into Amit's hand and Wales got a free hit. Manpreet was obstructed by a raised elbow by a Welsh player and the umpire called BOTH players over and told them to calm down. The red card for Panesar of Canada was provoked by stupid, physical play by Griffiths of England, who only got a yellow.

The BBC commentators are equally nauseating. I just can not bear to watch this farce. Nothing much has changed regarding the sportsmanship of the white teams, ridiculous/racist commentary and the terrible umpiring since that infamous 2002 CWG women's final.

Batra should have done a lot more on this matter than messing around with other things. This is one of the main reasons we don't win tight matches v. top teams. If we are close to a win, you can bet green and yellow cards are coming. All 50/50 calls always go the white teams. Even obvious fouls or rough play against coloured teams are not penalised fairly.

The first thing that can be done is to allow 2 referrals. Secondly, contentious yellow cards could be reviewed. I know there will be many more stoppages, but I can't think of any other quick fix. Thirdly, at least 1 non white umpire should be officiating in a match involving a coloured team.

I wonder what Graham Reid and Janneke Schopman think of the decisions we and other teams are getting?

Our mens hockey team up 2-0 at half time against South Africa. Was deadlocked 0-0 for a long time but Abhishek and Mandeep scored in last 10 mins for us to go up 2-0.

South Africa pull one back and we are only up 2-1 after Q3. It is a tough one, anything can happen.

Our women leading NZ 1-0 at half time in bronze medal match. We have dominated the match so far and now allowed NZ forwards to come forward much. But, NZ are packing their defence and not allowing much space to our forwards. We still managed to get thru a few times and that led to 1 goal by Salima Tete.

Need to continue the same in second half.

We still lead 1-0 after Q3. We missed a sitter and then NZ had 2 chances but just missed. It is a close match and we need to convert our domination into goals.

Some silly play to get a yellow card in last 2 mins and NZ score to level at 1-1. We just did convert our domination into goals and now have to depend on Penalty shootout.

Very happy we got the bronze. There's not much between the top 4 teams here.

We played fairly well in patches, but just didn't convert enough of our chances and our PC conversion rate was a big let down. Thankfully, our last minute malady didn't cost us a medal.

Well done to all the team and coaches.

Happy for the ladies... So, despite the patchiness in our play, it seems like we have not regressed badly since the Olympics. That is nice to see!

Full marks to Savita for leading the team in the absence of Rani Rampal. Janekke also radiates positivity as a coach and the team looks like a strong bunch. Navneet Kaur has been the standout player with her skills. World class.

It is great that the team likes their coach. I was worried about the coach change after Tokyo, but all seems well. Let's keep continuity, and hope for a good show at the Asiad and the Olympics. We just need her to change the spelling of her name to "Janaki", that is all :)

Janekke, very accomplished multi-Olympic and World Cup medalist herself, was part of the Tokyo team as analytical coach for India. So probably didn't take too long for her to take the head coach role and was already gelled well with players. That's why she got the Celebratory Body Tossing from her girls today.
