Re: FIH Men's Pro League
Watched the 2 games v the Dutch. We played well in parts but the Dutch were just better at keeping possession, defended properly (see below) and were faster and more incisive when attacking and made far fewer silly errors compared to us.
Our PCs never looked like succeeding as their 1st runners simply blocked the route to goal or our flicks were straight at the keeper (especially Jugraj's efforts). We were slightly lucky to draw the 1st match but I feel 2-1 loss in the 2nd match flattered us, so no complaints about the results.
Our defending was generally poor. Soft PCs conceded, lost possession in dangerous areas and no one get's low enough or has nimble footwork to avoid fouls in our circle. Jarmanpreet's marking was questioned by the commentators. Nothing new there!
Over the 4 matches, Mandeep scored one goal off a rebound and won 1 PC and Akashdeep won 1 PC. That's it. Both missed great chances, lost the ball repeatedly with sloppy passing or trapping or just got tackled easily. Again. nothing new in this. Yet, they will be at the CWG and the likes of Pawan Rajbar, Shilanand, Sumit etc won't be Unfortunately both will continue till the Paris Olympics..at least

Re: FIH Men's Pro League
Pardon my ignorance. I thought that Jarmanpreet was a typo and you meant Harmanpreet.

That first one "har man preet" makes every man happy (preet). The other one makes only Germans happy, I guess. Not sure who is a better player!

Re: FIH Men's Pro League
Elementary, my dear Watson! It is harder to make every man happy. So, Harmanpreet has a bigger impact in games and thus is a better player.
Now, if you interpret things differently: har (destroy as in Hara Hara Mahadev, etc.) man (mind) preet (love), then that is horrendous. Someone who destroys the love in every mind! Really diabolical.
But, in the context of sports, I think the right sense is har (loss) man (mind) preet (love) - as in a mind that loves losing! Really, really awful name for a player!

Har=all
Jarmanpreet is not up to international standard. Harmanpreet has been our best player for 4-5 years.
2nd game in the Pro League ended up in a 3-2 loss to Spain. We've definitely regressed since the Tokyo Olympics.

Re: FIH Men's Pro League
We beat NZL 7-3 today coming back from 1-3 down in early first half. So, that is a good win.
Lets see what they do in second match against Spain which is on Sunday.

Re: FIH Men's Pro League
Pro League matches (thrashings?) coming up v Australia and Germany.
Team selections continue to be idiotic, although, thankfully Mandeep, Akashdeep, Amit, Varun and Surender Kumar are missing. However, Jarmanpreet, Nilam Xess, Raj Kumar Pal are retained.

Not enough new talent being given a chance. Raheel Khan, Sanjay and Pawan Rajbar for example. Look at the make up of the team. Manpreet in defence, Dilpreet in midfield?
More alarmingly, David John has been appointed coach!! This guy was the physical trainer and has ZERO hockey coaching background! Think he was involved with the pace academy before joining the hockey set up.
