Re: Tokyo Olympic 2020 - Hockey
Finally, a deserved win for GB - but with too many weird decisions in an Olympic medal match...
Would have loved the girls at least to win the same medal as the boys... Especially for political and social reasons. None the less, to me, the "Chak De India" movie has somehow turned into truth. What a great effort by that team!

No complaints. Britain was a tad bit better. We needed to be a little sharper in the 4th quarter. But we played well. Congratulations, Gray Britain!

IHF will not think if it is captured by that lobby. We need to create an Asian or Asio-African coalition and take it back. Or at least neutralize it.

Bajrang survives a scare 3-3 but wins based on a 2 pointer vs all single one from opponent .. really need to sharpen himself if he wants to go deep.. Iran next

Re: Tokyo Olympic 2020 - Hockey
Atrociously biased umpiring against us, including a couple of cards in the fourth quarter that seriously set us back.
I tried not to watch, but succumbed to temptation with India up 3-2. GB equalized within a minute of me sitting in front of the TV. I should have left immediately, but (shamefully) didn't...

Expected loss to GB.
Didn't watch the game but if GB were the better team overall, then 4th is OK. I felt Argentina were also a bit smarter and generally better than us too.
A medal for the women would have been unbelievable. Let's hope this is the start of better things to come and we don't squander the gains Marijne and his team have made.

Heartbreaking Story of the Indian Hockey Team circa 2006-2007 (Ashwin talks to Prasanna who was then an analyst with the Indian Hockey team) -- I am sorry that it is in Tamil. Closed captioning works.

Watched a replay of the women's bronze medal match. It was a close one, but GB just had a little bit more in the circle than us. For about 10 mins (either side of half time) we were all over GB by using our stick skills and pace. Both teams missed chances- GB more than us. Umpiring was not as awful, as I expected! That's not saying it was entirely fair.
Our speed and fitness is totally transformed from 3-4 years ago. We still tend to give the ball away too easily and ball speed on passing could be a little faster and we need to convert our possession into more shots on goal or earn more PCs.
I could not see any weak players. Very impressed with Savita, Gurjit (for her PCs), Deep Grace Ekka (outstanding v Australia), Sushila, Neha (probably our best player), Navneet, Salima Tete and Sharmila. The last two have made a huge difference to our attack with their incredible pace.
I feel the long lay off due to Covid-19 set us back, because I recall us beating GB and Germany on a tour about 18 months ago. The first 3 games were tough, but we improved as the tournament progressed. We weren't too far behind Argentina or GB.
Sjoerd Marijne is leaving and Janneka Schopman will take over. Let's hope the transition is smooth and she takes us to an even higher level.
