Hockey India League (HIL)

Post by jaydeep »

As per report top Australian coaches r lining up for Hockey India League including Dutchman Roelant Oltmans.

Top Australian coaches for Hockey India League?
While no one is ready to confirm yet, sources in the know confirm that Ric (Charlesworth) has been approached for coaching one of the six franchises in the upcoming league and he has also given a verbal okay to the offer. Besides Ric, Colin Batch, Terry Walsh and Mark Hager – all Australians – and Dutchman Roelant Oltmans are the other names being considered for the coach’s job in the six-team event.

“The difference this time is that even though it’s a Hockey India league, it will be handled by private franchises. Since it’s modeled on the IPL, the franchises will have complete freedom to appoint their staff and work out their contracts. Therefore, even though Ric has had a bad experience in India before, this time it isn’t the federation he is dealing with, and so is willing to come over.”

Only two franchises out of six have been sold so far – Lucknow to Sahara India and Punjab to Jaypee Associates

Fantastic stuff.

If only each of these franchises can build a proper academy as well.

Can't be bothered with anything coming from HI...or IHF.
We can try all sorts of things, but ultimately...we will be cr*p.
Let's leave hockey to the serious nations. What hope have we got when we can't resolve the administration of the game in 4 years. Yes, since 2008 we have been messing about with one bunch of sh*ts and then switched to another group of lunatics.
HIL will be a nice, easy earner for some foreign coaches and foreign players. Sorry for being so negative, but I've had enough of Indian hockey nonsense.
Please note the enthusiasm of the bidders of the 6 franchises. Only TWO sold. What kind of league has only 6 teams. Looks like nobody cares about hockey. We can't blame them. If HI and IHF had any sense, they could expand on last years PHL and run it properly. But that would be a SENSIBLE decision. We certainly can't have that!

Absolutely. I don't give a damn. Had they chosen to expand on PHL (or WSH), I would be truly excited too, because that would show that these guys have some business sense to get together to make money, and some reasonable ability to think logically. These sh*ts (I have taken a bit of a liking for that term ssp has long used for them) will do nothing useful or reasonable, as they are driven by petty egos, grudges and power-hunger. They won't succeed in anything. Who cares. Jay

I too agree. This league is only a cover up by HI to prove and show that they concerned about Indian Hockey. In reality this league has been established only in retaliation to IHF's backed WSH.
I would still pick PHL and WSH over this worthless HIL. With the way HI is planning to commercialise it i am sure this will not help improve the grass root situation rather it will just be a league where the established players earn a good amount of money.
I will still pick WSH over any other league and believe that it was a blessing in disguise when national players were not allowed to participate in WSH. This helped the other players to perform and even gave us some great talent and instead on building on that we used the same useless playera.
Lastly one thing which we need to understand is that we dont need to market hockey, it is already very popular. We only need to do well in major competetions to do well to increase fan base.
This sport is similar to cricket where if our national team does well only then will we have a great fan base for our domestic league.

Yes, our team doing so badly in the Olympics would have really killed the interest of the sponsers in picking up teams for this league. Our national team needs to do reasonably well for the interest to pick up for Hockey. Now, people are more or less resigned that hockey is dead in the country. Unless we sort out the administrative mess created by having 2 organisations running the game, nothing good is expected.

WSH Vs HIL, things are not rosy for players
Every India team player has signed up with the WSH. We could have dragged them to court this year also for not participating in the first edition despite a legal contract but we did not since it was the Olympic year and we did not want to do anything that might have been construed as being ‘anti-national’. However, next year it won’t be so easy. The contract is for three years and they can’t sign up with any other league just like that,”
said an official in the know.
In fact, they said, a few players including captain Bharat Chhetri have already been sent legal notices seeking a response on their contractual conflicts between the WSH and the HI league. Which means, at the end of the day, it will again be the players in the lurch in the battle between HI and IHF.

I expect more legal tangles because the WSH will not be happy with all the players who signed contracts with them and then going on to this 'auction'. Idiotic stuff.
I'd use Hi & IHF sh*ts as target practice for our shooters. They deserve nothing better.

By the way, I wonder how much the players who can actually trap the ball cleanly will cost at this auction! Nowadays, being among the top 90 players in India means nothing.

WSH-contracted players need to take NOCs, says Colaco
"Around 14-15 players of the Indian team that played in the Olympics have signed three year contracts with our franchises. They will have to apply and get No Objection Certificates from their respective franchises in order to play in another league,"
Nimbus Sport's Chief Operating Officer Colaco said.
