Disappointing to lose today, but let's hope we reverse the result tomorrow.
We have to thank Malaysia for that upset win over Japan. We squandered a 2-0 lead against Japan and today lost a game we should have drawn at least or even won. Nothing new in that respect.
Just imagine what we could have done with an effective drag flicker. As I mentioned earlier, our selectors choose to leave out our best PC option! Nothing new there either.

Our girls have better Hockey skills -- stickwork, ball control, passing and trapping -- but the Chinese are much fitter and much speedier than all the Indian players. So the fast breaks work for China. When we inevitably mess up another penalty corner, China counter-attacks and our defenders are caught short. When we Attack, the entire Chinese team seems to be swarming all over their half defending. That is why we lost despite dominating possession and earning at least 8 PCs to only 3 for the Chinese (by my informal count). We were dominant but not aggressive enough in the first half. We need to score early and stay aggressive in the final.

The lack of a drag flicker is a glaring handicap. We try bizarre indirect tactics off PCs, with a very Low probability of success. Earning PCs is rarely of much use for us.

Good comments PKB.

We have good stick skills, but lack speed, stamina and strength. In addition, our coach is pretty useless. He is just collecting the easy $$$s. Our selections are cr*p. A quality coach would get us more wins in Asia at least and maybe move us up the rankings just by doing what the Chinese were doing (falling back quickly, passing the ball out of defence and cutting out the silly turnovers). Just watch how many times the likes of Deep Grace Ekka will take ages to place the ball with their heads down and when they eventually look up, the opposition have blocked off all the easy passes!

A decent drag flicker is the biggest headache at this level, because we are getting a fair few PCs. Against tougher opposition, we rarely have the ball for more than a few seconds. £ passes are the maximum before we give it away.

India score off a PC with 2 minutes to go in the first quarter, having dominated play. That was a good drag flick! 1-0

India lead 1-0 at half time. Playing much better today, intercepting well, passing and attacking superbly. Seems like a different team almost so far!

A PC and then a field goal opportunity missed in quick succession-- 4th and 5th minute of the third quarter.

China gets its first PC, then 2 more immediately but our goalie saves the third one brilliantly. Danger passes, India counterattack but not quickly enough.

China score with 1 minute to go in the third quarter. Terrible Defence and goalie error off a Long ball. Completely undeserved goal for China, made possible by inept Indian defence. 1-1

Just knew there would be some defensive lapse at some point. Expect China to sneak a win here.
No...we sneak the win with a last minute goal. :bounce: :bounce:

Oh no- appealed. And?? It stands, but China have walked off. They return to complete the final 17 seconds and we hold on to win.

Great news to win both tournaments, but China, Korea and maybe Japan are rebuilding and so were not as strong as usual.

Deepika scored the second goal and she almost scored a few minutes before with a fine solo effort.

Commentators were saying China were playing their under 21 team. Were Japan and Korea also with their junior teams ?

That was a brilliant goal, high and handsome in the top far corner of the goal.

China was U21s (explains our competitiveness ) and the other 2 had about half newcomers in their squads.
