Sardar turns the ball over to Pakistan in India's half but the danger passes.

We were much the better team in the fourth quarter, but our play is often sloppy. Passes go abegging, and we often turn the ball over carelessly to the opposition. But Pakistan were rarely able to capitalise. Sardar and Chinglesena were the stars for India.

Nikkin Thimaiah's matchwinning goal was a sizzler. We could easily have scored a couple more goals during that period of play.
I like the confidence of the Indian players' post-match comments. Sardar says it's always good to play Pakistan, we always dominate but the key is to win the matches -- and we did both times. Sardar gets the award for Player of the Final.

Rupinderpal Singh who scored 11 goals (5 more than the next highest scorer) is the Man of the Tournament. His defensive lapses are overlooked!

That India won despite Sreejesh being out with a hamstring injury was all the more commendable. Akash Chitte did well in the key matches in Sreejesh's place.

Congrats Indian team for officially once again cementing their current status as Asia's #1 ... Hoping for some solid performance against top-5 teams in the future.

Yes, happy that we won finally. But, we should be winning more easily against this Pakistan team which has not much exposure and not too much good coaching.

As SSP always says some the weak players are dragging us down. Akashdeep and Uthappa are useless and should be dropped now. Ramandeep, Jasjit and Talwinder are only slightly better and should be replaced too as we have better replacements available. Rupinderpal and Nikkin are up and down, brilliant at times but mediocre at others. Sardara is not his old self and makes too many mistakes these days but still provides some classy moments and he should be retained for that. Birendra is decent in defense but slightly slow after his injury break. Kothajit, Davinder Valmiki are quite consistent and Pradeep Mor showed some good abilities. Chinglensana is the one who has shown real improvement in last year or so. Lalit and Affan Yousuf were good additions to the forward line and would do well with more exposure.

But, at least 5-6 replacements are needed from this team to be at least competitive against top 4-5 teams. Sunil and Manpreet should come back. Other than that we need reinforcements from junior team. But, I am sure we will go back to Raghunath and retain some of the useless players.

Sameer: great minds think alike.

Great day for us today. 3 important wins (men and women in ACT) and juniors in Valencia. I wasn't able to watch or follow any of the matches (which is why we won!!!), But, it is guaranteed that Akashdeep, Uthappa, Ramandeep and 1-2 other guys will be pathetic.

Wouldn't it be so good to see the back of all of these guys?

I have to agree on Uthappa. He just kept messing up chance after chance in the fourth quarter -- at least three great scoring opportunies were killed by him, one by scooping dangerously into a Pakistani defender 5 feet from the goalmouth.
Sardara is a brilliant playmaker, but also prone to mistakes. I'd take the latter for the many more great moves he makes up front.

The women's format is better than the men's tournament, where we had needless semi finals. For the women, the final will be contested by the top 2 teams, and we have a good chance of being in the final if we can defeat Malaysia and get a decent result against China (draw or even a narrow defeat maybe ok). It's a shame we didn't hang on to a 2 goal lead v Japan as a win there would have almost guaranteed a place in the final.

Our women's play is still scrappy and littered with errors, but we are not gifting the ball away every 30 seconds. This is mainly because the opposition here is not pressing our defenders as intensely as the European/Oceanic teams, and we can actually pass the ball to the midfield.

As with the men, the selectors insist on hampering our chances with silly decisions. Ritu Rani was dropped for the Olympics because of her 'lack of form, attitude and getting engaged without notice (!!)' and then recalled for the next camp! We have no drag flicker and so our PC attempts are an old fashioned hit or a deflection. Just like Gurbaj, our (only?) drag flicker, Jaspreet Kaur is being ignored for tournament after tournament.
