Re: Asian Games Hockey
Yes, pathetic.
Sreejesh for the so-called best goalkeeper in the world is kind of bad at keeping penalties out.

Re: Asian Games Hockey
That was due once we allowed them to stay in the match and not put away our chances ..

Re: Asian Games Hockey
Yes, at 2-1 we should have gone all out and scored another. We tried defending and too recklessly. Gave away a silly PC with 2 mins to go. And Sreejesh was too slow to save that too.
Re: Asian Games Hockey
I watched Q1 and knew that we would be in 'stupid' mode as our players were collectively too excited or nervous (ytake yourpick). Silly unforced errors all over the pitch. Malaysia just needed to get the ball close to our circle and some oafish play by any one of our players would gift away a PC. At the other end, our PCs were rubbish.
Idiotic comments before the tournament (nothing less than gold etc)sound silly now.
Pick dross and this is what you get...Amit Rohidas, Mandeep, Akashdeep and even Rupinder have had enough chances.
Well done to Malaysia. I hope they win the gold here.

Re: Asian Games Hockey
Wow, Japan beats Pakistan 0-1 in the semi final.
India beat Japan 8-0 in the group stage, Pakistan beat Malaysia 4-1. And now Japan and Malaysia will fight for gold and India-Pakistan are left fighting for bronze.
Now, I want Japan to win that gold so that one more spot opens up for olympic qualifiers which we have to go thru now.

Re: Asian Games Hockey
What a disgrace! We mess up as always in a knockout match. But this loss is truly awful.
There goes our painstakingly built world ranking. The Asian Games has been one arena where our men mess up with unerring regularity.

Re: Asian Games Hockey
One of many. We keep finding new teams to lose to (Ireland & Canada in the past year or two). Frankly any well organised team with discipline and structure has a chance against our guys. In the past, we didn't have the funding to match the top teams, but now that excuse is gone. We are just plain cr*p when it really matters. For no reason, there is one truly horrendous game per tournament, where all the players commit basic errors for most of the match. Trapping becomes a big problem, passing under no pressure is done with hurried raised balls and possession is gifted away in almost every attack. Tackling near our circle is guaranteed to be utterly crazy with resultant PCs and green/yellow card suspensions.Unread post by jaydeep » Fri Aug 31, 2018 4:45 am
Is Malaysian team a new bogey team for our men's hockey team?
Our PCs have been awful for ages. The push out seems a bit slow and all our drag flickers take ages to get the shot away, with the number one runner almost always able to deflect the shot.

Re: Asian Games Hockey
I don't think we really have any bogey teams and this is a genuinely good team overall by Indian standards.
However they are still a mentally fragile lot and you fully expect them to come out losers if they are leading with a small margin towards the end of a game.
We were the same in cricket for a long time until Ganguly came around.

Re: Asian Games Hockey
Exactly Gangully did change the approach and attitude of the team in a long way. We need some changes in our hockey team to r else I don't find them in podium of Olympics even in 2024 also. Yesterday was such a heartbreak even Jinson Johnson and 4*400 women could not heal that. Ouchh it still hurtsSin Hombre wrote: ↑Fri Aug 31, 2018 12:12 pm However they are still a mentally fragile lot and you fully expect them to come out losers if they are leading with a small margin towards the end of a game.
