Re: Asian Games Hockey
India will be playing 4 match test series in Australia in early November. That should be a good preparation for Champions trophy.
Re: Asian Games Hockey
The squad for the 2018 Asian games has been announced. Akashdeep is back and Mandeep stays. I have given up on both of these two, so let's hope our PC conversions are good to get us the results.
I was hoping Sumit Kumar would be fit and take Ramandeep's place. Disappointing to see Jarmanpreet dropped to make way for Rupindder Pal. I'd have dropped Amit Rohidas
Goalkeepers 1. PR Sreejesh 2. Krishan B Pathak
Defenders 3. Harmanpreet Singh 4. Varun Kumar 5. Birendra Lakra 6. Surender Kumar 7. Rupinder Pal Singh 8. Amit Rohidas
Midfielders 9. Manpreet Singh 10. Chinglensana Singh Kangujam 11. Simranjeet Singh 12. Sardar Singh 13. Vivek Sagar Prasad
Forwards 14. S V Sunil 15. Mandeep Singh 16. Akashdeep Singh 17. Lalit Kumar Upadhyay 18. Dilpreet Singh

Re: Asian Games Hockey
Both our teams have scored big wins in their opening matches.
The women actually weren't too sharp in their 8-0 win over Indonesia but hammered Kazakhstan 21-0 yesterday.
The men scored their best ever win against Hong Kong today, 26-0.
The standard of the opposition has been embarrassingly bad so far. Asian hockey federation needs to do much more to bring some of these weaker nations up to a better level.

Re: Asian Games Hockey
Hong Kong standard has plummeted is due to indirect interference from Beijing which gave directives non to include non Chinese , as the nucleus of HongKong team was always Punjabi's , Englishmen , Australians and Paki's , in fact even the HongKong hockey federation chief is Satinder Dillon for the past 2 decades, But this time around it was the all local Hongkong Chinese members team who are just part time weekend players having full time day jobs and there you have your 26 nil result.

Re: Asian Games Hockey
In fact many of my Punjabi Friends were part of the squad which played the 82 Asian games in Delhi and continued well untill the early 90"s
here is the picture of them from an interesting link "Sikhs in world Hockey".

Re: Asian Games Hockey
Thank you for the info Rajiv.
The scores are a result of our teams improving and the likes of HK and Kazakhtan declining. Against HK, we took our keeper off and our defenders, Harmanpreet and Rupinder Pal scored from open play! It was men v U16s type of game.

Re: Asian Games Hockey
8-0 win for our men over Japan today. That is impressive. Let's see how we fare against Korea, but really the only matches that matter are the semis and (hopefully) the finals!
Even against this level of opposition, Mandeep is very frustrating. Zero contribution outside the D, misses chances in most matches and only scores via deflections or rebounds. Maddening to see much better options being kept out or discarded completely ( Affan Yousseff, Armaan Qureshi, Sumit jnr, Gurjant or Nikkin ). A quality replacement would turn tight matches in our favour.

Re: Asian Games Hockey
Girls are now dismantling Korea and we are up 3-1 in the 4th quarter.
We win 4-1. This might be our most dominant performance against them in the women.

Re: Asian Games Hockey
Excellent win for our women. It was a tight match till Q4. Silly tackle gave the Koreans a PS, but brilliant PCs flicks by Gurjit Kaur swung the match our way and Vandana, who has been brilliant so far, scored a lovely 4th.
I think we will meet Malaysia in the semis.
Let's hope the men can match this kind kind of performance tomorrow.

Re: Asian Games Hockey
India is 2-0 over Korea by the 15th minute. We scored twice within the first 3 minutes -- RupinerPal (Penalty stroke) and Chinglesena scored.
Re: Asian Games Hockey
Oh dear. Soon as I started watching, we have been awful. 3-2 now. Keep giving the ball away every single time. Korea looking threatening and quicker than us. Time to switch off!
