I watched replay of the match yesterday night. In the last 15 mins. it was all Harmanpreet, he converted a PC which gave us the lead, he was good in defense and also had a good surge into Spain D which earned us another PC. This guy is so cool as compared to lot of our player who get all excited once they score a goal or get desperate while defending. He saved the day for us yesterday.

Started watching the semi in the 2nd half. We took the lead with 20 mins to go and as expected we could not hold on. 2-2 with 5 mins left.

Couldn't watch the shoot out so went away for a while and returned to see us celebrating a win. Well done guys and the bit of the match I saw, we played quite well, but gave away too many PCs and picked up a couple of green cards through silly tackles.
We have lost twice to the Belgian juniors in the last year or so. Let's hope we have saved our best performance for the final.

Improved performance by our boys ... In the shoot-out, goalkeeper Vikas Dahiya rose to the occasion and made two fantastic saves to deny Australia's Matthew Bird and Sharp.

Great to see India through to the final after our disastrous showing in 2013 (where we finished 10th at home).

This is our 3rd final overall which is behind only Germany's 7 finals and Australia's 4 finals. If we win, it will be our 2nd title which would be the most after Germany's astonishing 6 titles (out of 10).

Interesting to note that France somehow managed to finish 2nd in the 2013 jr WC but their mens team has not shown any significant improvement recently as could be expected when a strong cohort of juniors enter the senior ranks...

Here's a link to the India-Aus SF. Didn't have time to watch the whole match but the penalty shoot out was pretty cool, great finishing and great goalkeeping by the Indians (we shd have won the tie breaker 4-1).

Wonderful stuff to reach the junior World Cup final, having won every match along the way. The 2-1 win over South Africa was probably the nadir, but I like nadirs that are wins!! Beating Australia in a penalty shoot-out in the SF has to be the icing on the cake (as I can remember so many losses in penalty shoot-outs, most notably in the 1973 World Cup final against the Dutch).

So, we will be playing our first junior world cup final since 2001 today at 6 pm local time. In 2001 we easily won the final. Hope the result is the same although Belgium is going to be quite tough and our boys have to play better than they have in the tournament so far to prevail.

Thanks for the link, Arjun. I got to watch a full hockey match after a very long time. I was blown away by the first goal by Gurjant and the way it was passed to him by Manpreet. Fantastic stuff. Looking forward for our young guns to recreate this kind of magic in a few more hours.

Final starts and we have first PC after 3 mins and we mess it up as we have done with PC's all tournament long. :-(

And we get second penalty corner and we just cannot trap on penalty corner push. 2 PC's and our PC hitters did not even have a chance to hit the same due to mistraps.

Gurjant scores our first goal with a fierce reverse hit goal after 8 mins, similar to SF goal, an even better one. India lead 1-0.

Oh, Neelkanta Sharma misses an open goal . We have absolutely dominated the first 10 mins but need to make it count as we never know when Belgium come back.

Simaranjeet scores another beauty to get us 2-0 up after 23 mins.

Damn, umpire gives an unwarranted PC to Belgium but they hit wide.

And it remains 2-0 at half time. Belgium did come back somewhat in last 10 mins or so but we defended well. We should have scored 1-2 more the way we dominated early. That would have it very difficult for them to come back. Now, first 10 mins or so in second half will be important as Belgium may come down hard.

Still 2-0 after first 10 mins of second half. More even in second half but we are still in control and defending well. Not as many circle penetrations as first half though.

We get our third PC. But miss it again.

Belgium got their first real chance but Dahiya saved well. 15 mins to go. Hold on boys.

Belgium putting in a lot of pressure now. We are soaking up everything so far but it is a crucial period where we need to make sure Belgium do not score. 11 mins to go.

Oh, Gurjant had a clear chance but their GK makes a great tackle to deny him.

And we get another PC. And now get another. But, it is straight at goalie. Trap not good again.

8 mins to go. 2-0 India still.

5 mins to go.

3 mins to go and Belgium GK comes off.

1 min to go. PC for Belgium but I guess they have time only for that one .

Belgium score to make it 1-2 but time is already over.

We win the junior world cup after 15 years. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Fabulous!!

Winning every match they played in the World Cup is the icing on the cake. The closest anyone came to matching them was Australia in the SF, but India for once won a penalty shoot-out hands-down. Dahiya in goal, and Harmanpreet in attack seem the big finds.
