Heard somewhere in the corridors of Indian hockey power in Delhi:
So we do get to see Ric coach a team, a very good one at that. Congratulations Ric.The Aussies are copying us -- giving the men's coaching job to the guy who coached the women's team. We are the trendsetters for world hockey.

Re: Hockey in countries besides India
Indian hockey team discard becomes Australian team coach. Things must be pretty bad in Australia, I guess!

FIH are streamling the CT matches live on: http://www.fihockey.org
Standard of hockey is very high, with the Aussies looking brilliant in every department. They seem quicker, fitter and more skillful than the other teams. They have been very good for the last 3 decades and did very well under their previous coach (Barry Dancer), but I feel Ric Charlesworth has taken them to an even higher level. They should win this tournament with ease, as only Germany can give them a hard time.
I'm sure Ric would have made our team more successful than Brasa but the idiots at HI had other ideas. However, he would not have stood for the useless selections and interference from the HI lunatics.
Of the other teams, England are the most annoying, with their constant moaning about umpiring decisions- even though they win most of the 50/50 decisions. Spain & Holland are experimenting with several inexperienced youngsters being given a chance.

Re: Hockey in countries besides India
It is S. Korea vs Ireland in 2nd Olympic qualifier.
SK is with 13 points, 4 win, 1 Draw while Ireland 3 win, 2 draw.
Ireland qualify for final drawing with Malaysia. At the end of regular league matches, Ireland has 11 points while Malaysia has 10 points. Malaysia is 3 win 1 draw and 1 loose.
In the regular league matches Ireland drew with S.Korea.
Final will be an interesting affair.

Re: Hockey in countries besides India
I was hoping Malaysia would win this qualifier, but they have come up short when it mattered.
Now Korea has to win and knock out Ireland and ensure another Asian team makes it to the Olympics.
Meanwhile, I think we may have found the formula for success at future tournaments
Just invite all the best players from higher ranked teams to play in the WSH. That way their respective federations & FIH will ban them, whilst we keep our best players away from the WSH. We have already handicapped Pakistan with this plan, now we only need to mess another 9 teams!

Korea scores a winner in last 7 seconds to beat Ireland 3-2...
Stupid play by Irish in last 30 seconds to give away the ball...so its Korea who Qualifies for the London 2012...

Re: Hockey in countries besides India
South Korea fetched last min rather last 5 sec stunner to lead 3-2 at end of regular time and won the 2nd qualifier to qualify for London 2012.
Nice to see South Korae qualify as 3rd Asian country beside Pakistan and India.Ireland was great but fell short, Malaysia was pathetic didn't come prepare to qualify.
I am not sure if 3rd goal was a PC or PS or FG.

Third goal was a FG with a deflection on a free hit from just outside the 25....

There is a new set-up in Pakistan hockey with Brig (retd) Khalid Khokhar as the president and the legendary forward Shahbaz Ahmed as the secretary general. Here is interview of Shahbaz Ahmed.

Re: Hockey in countries besides India
Just watched Australia demolish a very poor Pakistan side 9-1 in a 4 nation tournament.
It was embarrassing to see how bad Pakistan are nowadays. The defending and midfield are a joke. Just ball watching, no marking or tackling & giving the ball away every time. Their forwards rarely had the ball. Even though Pakistan are fielding 5 youngsters, this kind of performance is terrible.
Australia had all the space and time they wanted, but still they looked very good indeed under their new coach and I suspect they will become the top ranked team soon.
