And Indian women's team won 8-0 against Nigeria and keep alive their hopes to qualify for SF ... But we only converted 2 of 14 penalty corners we earned, so that means we lost opportunity to won by atleast 15 goals ...

I saw part of the IND v MAL womens hockey match. Indian 'girls' really played well for most of the match. The single goal scored by Malaysia was due to fall in cvoncentration from our team...not really much from Malaysian girls...they couldnt even keep up with our pace.
There was one goal scored thru penalty corner...perfect textbook stuff with trap / pass / goal. Was a treat to watch. Absolutely clean.

Pakistan scored a "convenient" 6-5 win over Malaysia to knock India out of the reckoning! Pakistan led 4-2 at half-time and led 5-2 at one stage before Malaysia equalised at 5-5. To make it more convincing Pakistan made it 6-5.
Shame and mystery that the two group-deciding matches were played one after the other (not simulatenously).
But even if India had won with a bigger margin (than the 2-0) against South Africa, all that Pakistan and Malaysia would have required was a 2-2 (or a 4-4) or any draw.
FIH should investigate such "fixed" matches and take remedial measures for future.

Pakistan and Malaysia conspired to deprive India of a semifinal spot. But our team let them do it, by merely drawing the match against Malaysia and then losing so badly to Pakistan. I hope the press focuses on those two awful performances, and holds the coach responsible for the uncoordinated performance by his team.

May be match was fix, but truth is our performance was poor and we didn't deserve to qualify for SF ... I feel instead of checking about match betweek Pak and Malaysia, we should check remedy for our own revival ... As PKB mentioned rightly that if we managed to beat Malaysia then we never need to worry about whole issue ... So with today's result we completed our worst performance in Commonwealth hockey ...

A fixed match is a fixed match. Let’s not feel that this need not have been argued had India played well against Malaysia. What happened was in the past; what could have happened was to be seen only.
It is for the FIH to make sure that at least such matches are held simultaneously so that there is minimum manipulation possibilities.
We have to take results of matches as they happen. Take for example, the Indian women’s team. They drew with great difficulty with South Africa and then trounced Malaysia. The same Malaysian team beat South Africa!
No one is saying this men’s hockey team is great or even good. No one will shed a tear for it.
But a fixed match is a fixed match. Just because India played poorly, it doesn’t mean we have to lose sight of a fixed match.

I agree. It is outrageous that the match was fixed -- and Malaysia is becoming a bit notorious for this, as it participated in a similar feat during the football World Cup qualification rounds too.

Our women are in the final!! They beat NZealand 1-0. Well done. They will play Australia in the final.
The men's team get all the attention & hype whilst the women continue to get the results. Great work Kaushik & all the team. Wish you the best for the final.

Good performance by Indian women's hockey team. Good job. But Indian men's hockey team had a bad time and should try to improve their team.

For the record, there was another loss for our men's team [who are now reduced to being mentioned specifically as "men's" team because our "hockey team" that performs to some decent level may now even be the women's team]
IND l. NZL, 1-2
We finish SIXTH at the commonwealth games out of 8 teams.
I have called for violence towards IHF offices. I repeat - can somebody take a baseball/cricket bat and go to IHF premises and break some things? -- not legs, but it would be good to break His Highness Big Cop's car's rear-view mirror etc.
The IHF top brass (and our clueless coach) should be paraded naked holding signs saying "we are a national disgrace".
.. but then, we are more worried about some cricketers' career average than what our sports officaldom has been doing to our nation.
KPS Gill. You worthless piece of excrement. Have you no shame, sir?

Can understand your disappointment and frustration Jay. I think all Forum members share your feelings as far as this pathetic performance is concerned.
But is there a way out?
The media has never lost an opportunity to slam Gill and Co. But nothing has changed the attitude of the federation (rest of officials) nor has the Govt been able to bring in a semblance of control, especially in selection matters and coach's appointment. (When Govt interferes, IOA cries "autonomy, autonomy".)
When there are shameless people controlling Indian hockey and Indian sport in general, what can one do?
Yes, Jay's suggestion of going and breaking a few things can still come about if the public could be made to wake up. But Jay and the rest of us know one thing, the Indian public cannot be made to react to anything except cricket, cricket selection, cricket gossip etc.
(I saw, for a change today, on TV, people reacting vehemently to the doping case at CWG)
So, here we go again....what can be done? What needs to be done...
