Russia is the lowest rated team in the qualifiers amongst the men. We beat them 10-0 earlier in the year so can't see us messing this up over 2 legs at home.

USA is the 2nd lowest team from pot 3 so can't complain too much about our luck with the draw.

Pak men got Netherlands so they will fail to qualify again.

Yes, a favorable draw for men ... Also, hoping qualification for our women, despite a tricky opponent USA.

India men to face Russia, women draw USA in final round of Olympic qualifier

Our men and women teams will play back-to-back matches against Russia and USA teams respectively in Bhubaneswar on November 1 and 2 to make it to the Tokyo Olympic.

This should be relatively easy for the Indian men. The women should also be favored at home although the matches could be quite close.

Our team is selected for the qualifier matches -

Indian Team:
Goalkeepers: PR Sreejesh, Krishan B Pathak
Defenders: Harmanpreet Singh, Rupinder Pal Singh, Surender Kumar, Varun Kumar, Amit Rohidas, Gurinder Singh
Midfielders: Manpreet Singh(Captain), Hardik Singh, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay,
Forwards: Mandeep Singh, Akashdeep Singh, Ramandeep Singh, SV Sunil (Vice Captain), Simranjeet Singh

Almost the same team as in earlier round of qualification except that Sunil and Rupinder Pal are added.

Mandeep & Akashdeep will score a goal or two against Russia but against a quality team in a crucial match, both will produce dreadful performances and Amit Rohidas will get carded or gift 2-3 PCs or a PS. :-(

Still, misgivings over 3 players is progress. Used to be about half a dozen in the recent past ;)

Some really tough matches going on in this new format of 2 match qualifiers.

Yesterday, Spain came back from 0-3 down against France and draw level at 3-3. Their second leg to be played today.

Today, Pakistan drew with Netherlands 4-4, a surprise result. It could have been a win for Pakistan but for last second equaliser by Netherlands. It will be a key second leg match tomorrow.

Spain beats France 3-2 in second leg and qualify for Tokyo olympics. Today, fate of Netherlands and Pakistan will be decided. All square after first leg.

I expected Pakistan to be thrashed in both matches, given their lack of preparation. They are even more disorganized than HI and have been struggling with funds and keep appointing ex-Olympians as coaches. The played 2 test matches v Germany a few days before their olympic qualifiers and got thrashed 6-1 & 6-2.

The 4-4 draw in the first match was a total surprise, but was too good to last. As a hockey fan, it is sad to see their decline and I honestly can't see them recovering anytime soon.

Wow, never expected our women's team to be this dominant against USA. Was expected to be a close match.

Surely we cannot lose by more than 4 goals in second leg.
