Dear forum member

The Amateur Football Clubs Association of Kolkata proudly announced the launch of the Amateur Tournaments for the 2016-17 season on Sunday. The tournaments to be played are AFCA League which will be played across 3 divisions with promotion and relegation system and AFCA Knock-out Cup.

The Amateur Football Clubs Association created by a few passionate football lovers is a first of its kind in Kolkata. The main objective of this newly formed body is to bind the amateur level players of Kolkata under one unified platform and to give them the proper exposure which was lacking. AFCA also aims to change the football eco-system of the city by spreading the beautiful game of football among the young generation.

A total of 197 matches will be played this season starting from 3rd April 2016. A total of 24 teams are divided into 3 divisions. All matches will be of 70 minutes (35 minutes per half with 10 minutes break) under the jurisdiction of AFCA. A total of 4 substitutions will be allowed over the course of the game while a maximum of 7 substitutes can be named apart from the playing eleven at the start.

Sourav Ghosh has been appointed as the Tournament Commissioner and Rivu Das, Anupam Roy Chowdhury, Debojit Chatterjee and Prasenjit Chowdhury has been appointed as the Match Commissioners, one of whom will be present in each game of the tournament.

However, players who are registered with any other football association other than AFCA will not be allowed to participate in the Tournaments.

AFCA has also planned to conduct Inter School U-17 tournament and Inter College U-21 tournament for both boys and girls, alongside an AFCA Women Premier League involving 8 teams, which will kick-off in August. They also have planned to open an academy for all age groups where the best talents(both male and female) will be allowed to train in the best academies in the world.

The Amateur Football Clubs Association aims to promote football in the City of Joy and also gradually expand to other cities. The venture certainly shows a lot of promise and it has the potential to revolutionize the football culture of Kolkata and beyond.
