I believe in Mr Adam. However, I hope this doesn't end like how our hockey situation goes, wherein you get a good coach and then all drama happens.

There are promising developments here. For India under-15 to go to Germany and have a winning record, then beat a couple of West Asian teams in the Asia qualifiers is excellent. Playing hours are important, but it is even more important to play quality opposition and use the most up-to-date training methods. Then, if they do well in the under-17 World Cup two years from now, perhaps some (all?) of them will get professional contracts in Europe, US, Japan, Korea, etc., and take it from there.

AIFF Youth Cup 2016

Aiff youth cup started today. U-16 teams of India, USA, Tanzania, South Korea and Malaysia will take part. This will be a good platform to get an idea of how our U 16 team is shaping up.

India's matches will be streamed live here

Our boys are in chance of getting really good experience against these top teams with first BRICS nations tournament ... In the first match our boys lost narrowly against Russian u-17 team ... Russians scored early in the match due to our defensive goof-up but afterwards our boys also managed to create chances ... In the early second half Russians reduced to 10 men but our boys failed to take advantage ... They defended really well despite didn't have a single chance on our goal.

At the BRICS U-17 Football Tournament, Goa, India

India l Russia 0-1 (0-1)
Goal Scored - Daniil Lopatin (RUS) 3'

Is this a first choice Russia U17 squad? If so, that is a decent performance indeed.

Our u-16 National Team lost their second match of the BRICS U-17 Football Tournament as the Colts went down fighting 0-1 against South Africa ... Radzilani’s 23rd minute header was enough to secure three points for the South Africans ... After that India pressed hard for the equalizer and even after the German Coach made two attacking changes, the boys could not find the decisive goal and the South African defence stood strong to see out the match.

India l South Africa 0-1 (0-1)
Goal Scored - Ndamolelo Radzilani (RSA) 23'

Our u-16 boys gave spirited performance against mighty Brazilian boys ensuring their competitiveness ... Brazil took lead in 2nd minute but equalized through Komal in 19th minute ... Brazil regained their lead in 30th minute ... In the second half we had coupe of opportunity but failed to take those chances ... Brazil scored their 3rd goal in 82nd minute and mach ended in their favor ... Interestingly India hosted Brazil for the first time in their Footballing history in any age group.

India l Brazil 1-3 (1-2)
Goal Scored - Komal Thatal (BRA) 19' and Brenner Silva (BRA) 2', Marcos Santos (BRA) 30', Vinicius Oliviera (BRA) 82'

Looks like the Indian U-17 team are playing in a U-18 tournament in Russiaand have an impressive 1-0 win over Belarus U-18 in their second match. In their first match, however, they were crushed 0-8 by hosts Russia U-18. The linked website has video of the complete matches.

Back to reality for our U-17 team as they lose 1-4 to Latvia U-18 in their final match. They finish 3rd in their pool.

The only other Asian team in this mostly European tournament, Asian powerhouse Iran U-18 also finished 3rd in their pool although they had better scorelines than India in their matches.

The initial promise shown by the Indian u17 team didn't surface again as they lost all of the classification matches by 1 goal each in the Valentin Granitkin tournament (linked above) to finish 16th and last. Iran U-18 finished 14th, so it was a pretty high standard tournament.

Nicolai Adam and the AIFF agreed to part ways after players protested and complained about his methods, combined with a streak of poor results compounded by the last place finish of the Blue Tiger cubs in the recently concluded Valentin Granatkin Cup ... The AIFF has declared that within a month new coach will be appointed ... Bhaichung Bhutia and Abhishek Yadav will be involved in the next few months to integrate the team with the new coach.

Also, the organizers unveiled the mascot for u-17 FIFA World Cup, a Leopard Called 'Kheleo'.

Interesting that 3 of the stadia are named for Jawaharlal Nehru, one for Indira Gandhi, one for Swami Vivekananda, and one after a Mumbai businessman. Swamiji was perhaps the only one of those to have played any football (and he didn't play that much either, I think!). Where is the final scheduled for? Jay, should you and plan to meet there?
