Re: Indian Junior football
The India U-20 team just played a COTIF U-20 tournament in Spain.
After a poor start with losses to a Mauritania U-20 side (although who knows how old their players were) and a regional Spanish U-20 side, the India U-20 team then tied Venezuela U-20 0-0 and then beat the Argentina U-20 side 2-1!! Argentina and Venezuela ended up as the top 2 teams in India's group, so perhaps they played some of their reserves but anytime an India U-20 team beats an Argentina U-20 team it's definitely very noteworthy!!

Also, our u16 side defeated the AFC u16 reigning champion Iraq, 1-0, in the WAFF u16 championship at Jordan.

Re: Indian Junior football
Our under 16 team drew 0-0 with Iran today. I think Iran is the best Asian team at senior level. So, to get a draw against them at under 16 level is a very good result.

Re: Indian Junior football
We are certainly beginning to play some pretty competitive football in the junior levels. Probably an indication that we will probably be of Asian top-8 quality in the seniors during the next decade. Let us hope for it. Need some true difference-maker talents to emerge though.

Re: Indian Junior football
Yeah, this was pretty amazing, to see us advance ahead of Iran. In the pool stage, we beat Vietnam 1-0, and then tied both Iran and Indonesia with 0-0 scores. So Indonesia and India advanced. As Indonesia had beaten Iran 2-0 before tying Vietnam and India, they topped our pool on better scoring. They face Australia who were second in their pool to South Korea. So the QFs are JPN-Oman, Indonesia-Australia, N.Korea-Tajikistan, and S.Korea-India.
S.Korea has so far beaten Australia 3-0, Afghanistan 7-0 and Iraq 2-0. They are probably the best team in the field, so don't keep any hope. It will be the greatest miracle ever in Indian junior football, if we are to beat Korea and reach SF (and the world u17 field). The game is tomorrow (Oct 1) at 8.45 pm in Petaling Jaya.

Re: Indian Junior football
It will be very tough. Remember that we have only had one 86th minute penalty kick in the first match, as scoring in three matches. That kind of inability to score is not going to help against teams like S.Korea. But who knows, maybe our defense is so impenetrable, having allowed no goals in three matches. Okay, a couple of self-goals from S.Korea could happen

Re: Indian Junior football
0-0 at the 20th minute mark. Korea is in our half all the time but has had only one shot so far. We parked the bus to start the game itself
32m - still 0-0 and Korea has only one shot at our goal. we have only 20% possession probably though.
Great save by our goalie Neeraj in the 36th minute. still 0-0 ... Had another 2-3 more shots at our goal but nothing serious. Terrific defense by India.
Half time. 0-0 India-Korea. Hmmm... We actually finally had a foray into their end in the 46th minute and had a shot too.

Re: Indian Junior football
Neither team has allowed a goal in this tournament in 3.5 matches each. Will one of them allow one in the next half?
My streaming link disappeared. Does anybody have a link, for the second half? Here is the commentary at news18 - https://www.news18.com/news/sports/indi ... 94917.html ... It seems it is 0-0 in the 60th min. India pressing a bit more in the 2nd half and have got a couple of half-chances too.
We fall behind in the 68th minute. 0-1
85th minute. Still 0-1 .... And that is the final. We fall for a 0-1 score. Extremely creditable performance, but no cigar.
