Re: Football: Indian National Team news ...
Doesn't work that way. Only the top % of these kids will be in the national team. Is China's top players better than India's? Also, the Chinese will get better training, diet, coaching, etc. And, may grow taller than ours --- they are 16 and under. They will grow. The average Chinese is taller than the average Indian. I do not know about football players that well but China seems to produce taller ones. So, there are many reasons why success here may not translate.

We are ranked so low that there is only one way to go, upwards. So any small improvement both in the talent level and at the organisational (read scheduling) level will translate to a better ranking. Don't know about top 100 though.

Actually, there is more to organization than scheduling as you know. If the football association is well run, the level of football will improve and the ranking has to go up. But, there is a chance that the ranking can stay stagnant despite talented youngsters if they are not nurtured well. There is also hope that some of these kids may play in foreign leagues. Indian or foreign teams may get good coaches. Etc.

Re: Football: Indian National Team news ...
I think with the current talent level on the team we should be ranked around 130. China is currently ranked 78 and a few days ago was ranked 70 in the world. Either you are a tired pessimist to think that with the current U-16 lot we won't be able to reach rank 99 or I am a naive optimist to think India will rank at least 99 in 2020. We shall see.
But let me tell you, I got the 6 medal prediction exactly correct for the Olympics and my family member (who is aged 54) thought I was nuts to be so optimistic. Times have changed Prasen, this is not the 90s anymore. Team India will most likely be a Top-100 team in 2020.

I am agnostic. I am saying it is possible but that that conclusion should not be drawn on the basis of this tournament.

Re: Football: Indian National Team news ...
I'm actually looking at the over all picture, considering how our U-23 team performed in Oman, considering how our Pailan Arrows are shaping up, considering how our U-19 team is shaping up, considering how this U-16 is shaping up and the fact that they are travelling all over the world playing club teams, and considering how AIFF is setting up the academies all over India, and considering the fact that India will most likely host the U-17 world cup. That is the over-all picture.
By 2020, this U-16 team will age around 23-24. That means the seniors will be the players from Pailan arrows and U-19 team like Brandon Fernandez who was training in South Africa. If the trend continues the next couple of years of U-16 will improve and they will age around 18-20 in 2020.
So in 2020 every player on the team grew up and trained in a professional football environment and were taken care of very well by the academies and clubs. The seniors on the current team would have killed to have gotten the attention and care the U-23 (and younger) players are getting. The Indian team will be a whole different beast.

May your projections be correct. If it is based on the overall picture, I have no quips.

So this is the cream of the crop U-17 players from India huh? Cool. I can't wait to see what they will accomplish.
And the kid with the blond mohawk looks cool.

Singapore vs India International Friendly - Preview
The Blue Tigers are all set to take on the asian Lions Singapore in an international friendly match scheduled to be played on 16th September at Singapre's Chao Chu Kang Stadium. The scheduled kick-off is at 7:45pm IST. It's going to be the first real test for the new Indian coach Wim Koevermans although he has guided the team to Nehru Cup crown a couple of months ago. India has always been traditionally strong on their home soil, but it's their performance in away matches which has been a cause of concern for quite some time now. A win, or even a draw against this strong Singapore side will be considered as a morale boosting result for Wim's boys.
