Re: US Open 2015, Aug 25- Sept. 13
Karman doesn't play defense - maybe lack of strong legs. The other girl had strong legs and played a waiting game-showed maturity. Karma has a future on the tour. It was close, but the result was almost predictable, given the strength and speed. It's legs, legs, Legs! She is India's primary prospect....

Re: US Open 2015, Aug 25- Sept. 13
I suspect nerves played a part in not closing ou the match in the second set, since she is young. I could not go today, but I sent reinforcements in the form of my sister and family, and she is no slouch in the tennis spectating business! I look forward to hearing some insights from her! I hope to ge...

Re: US Open 2015, Aug 25- Sept. 13
Karman Thandi has the requisite tools to make a go at the pro tour, with a very effective forehand and a fluid dominating serve. The opponent had trouble with it. PKBasu will be happy, knowing she has a great inside-out forehand! She can hit it anywhere she likes. The backhand is serviceable, but ni...

Re: US Open 2015, Aug 25- Sept. 13
I could not make the match today, but I can imagine that at the very end, RamK might have just been quite worked up emotionally, and gone for too much on either his serve or the ground strokes. He is emotionally charged, which can be his strength, but can work against you also. He is supercharged on...

Re: US Open 2015, Aug 25- Sept. 13
PKBasu, Yuki's inside-out forehand is great, but it is more of a finishing stroke - he has a good all round game, but nothing that puts the fear of trouble in an opponent. Yuki's opponent was a prototype ninja, with a razor sharp forehand, which was driving Yuki back and into errors. The opponent had...

Re: Forum members get together to play...
The idea of never having played tennis, but playing 2 sets of tennis and impressing the coach enough to get discounted lessons, was a bit much. Must have meant 3:21 to get in a set! Ofcourse, it takes me more than that, to get a cup of coffee!

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup
Borna Coric from Croatia is one to watch in the future. I saw him up close at the USO and he is the real thing - just 18 and greatly focused, with all of tools, including some speed and quickness. NIck Kyriogos is a bit too swashbuckling and flourishes for my taste, but a force to be reckoned with, ...

Nice article on India's #1 and is doing well after 11 holes at +1. It's a tough course with greens sloping towards water hazards.

Re: Vijay Sundar Prasanth
Prof, Thanks for the narration of a family experience - it is touching and infuriating that an individual can be deprived of his just rewards, even on a tennis court. It is a miracle that someone without the means, found tennis and excelled. More kudos to him.

Re: Leander Paes thread...
Prof, At my age I only play doubles, and try to pick up stuff watching Lee and I would love to be able to streak across the net cutting off balls, but I'm more like a 20 ton lorry grinding out of first gear! So, I get passed down the line with the regularity of the setting sun. I would love to ask h...

When Nadal plays the French and loses, - that will be a clear indication of the demise of the clay monster. Until then Nadal is still part of the conversation.

Re: Yuki Bhambri
I'm guessing, but he might not have completely healed from his injury. At the USO this year, his footwork was wobbly, as if he did not want to place any weight on his right foot - sometimes he seemed to actually skip out of the way of balls, instead of making a stand. I love his game, and hope he re...

Re: They flitted briefly upon the tennis world's stage...
I watched her at the USO qualies and she made it into the main draw after surviving the heat and the humidity, which was oppressive that summer. She was physically overcome, but with sheer grit crossed the finish line. She did not have much left for the 1st round against Arantxa Sanchez, at the usua...

Re: Sania Mirza Tournaments -2014
PKBasu, Thanks for a superb summary of the proceedings in your backyard! I got to see it broadcast live and Sania made one proud. She might not be the prototype double player, but she brings her brand of it, to great effect. Her deft volleys were quite surprising, including that forehand which is st...
