Re: Indian domestic cricket/players
I agree with PKB here on the improvement in domestic standards. Our A teams and regional teams do fairly against visiting sides whereas 20 years ago they would get thrashed. That said Sandeep's point on weapons is also very valid. Success at lower levels does not always translate at higher levels....

Re: Rajeev Ram thread...(Maui Challenger...)
Although Bristish players are generally overranked (based on the numerous home tournaments), this is a good win for Rajeev since the 243 ranked Mackin recently qualified into the Australian open and must be playing pretty well.

Re: Rohan Bopanna thread...
I doubt that Rohan will win more than 50% of his matches against European players in the 250-350 ranks. On current form, he will crack the top 200 only if he targets weaker events in Asia and/or Africa.

Re: Indian player at Birmingham City FC
I don't think so. The US players in question were over 18 (Bobby Convey?) and were sought by the top league in U.K.
Here is a link to a another 29 year old player who has played for US national side who was denied a work permit.

Re: Davis Cup (for India) 2007
Actually, LP has been very clear all along that he will team with MB for India (in Davis Cup, Olympics etc.) and will not play with him otherwise. All the flip-flopping and confusing statements (whether for India or othewise) on this have come from MB.

Re: Pattaya Women's Open 2007
Nice win by Sania against a tough opponent (Castano) at the WTA level. While she is capable of more, these are good wins at the highest levels of womens tennis (WTA).

Re: Should Leander Paes Step Down as Davis Cup Captain?
Actually, I see the captain as the key figure is all tennis matters -- who coaches and motivates when the game is being played. The second person called "coach" (or manager or any other title) should be more of the organizer. Surfs the web, arranges travel, practice courts, etc. This cou...

Re: Indian player at Birmingham City FC
I think it is a work visa thing (players have to be of exceptional merit to get a visa and playing on a national team is one of the criteria). I know this since a couple of marginal players on the US national team (which is a world class team, relatively speaking) were denied visas presumably becau...

Re: Indian domestic cricket/players
I think Manoj Tiwary and Ranadeb Bose should both be prospects for India selection soon -- the former especially in ODIs, the latter in tests first (and ODIs also perhaps later in the year). I would think that it would be better for him to play in the ODI's first where India sorely lacks a restricti...

Re: 2007 PGA Tour - FBR Open - Daniel Chopra and Vijay Singh
Nice finish by Vijay to post a 7 under 64. However, on a day of low scores, he finished 7th at 15 under with the winner at 21 under.

Re: 2007 European Tour: Dubai Desert Classic
Overall, good performance by our guys. It is a testimony to how well they are playing that a T-10 performance by one of them on an European tour event (including Tiger and Els) feels like a slight dissapointment.

Punarayan -- Actually I have not read too many of your prior comments and hence I did not intend to question your obvious tennis abilities as you stated. However, your analysis above does reflect the type of analysis on which I have commented. On the one hand you praise the singles game of Harsh w...

Re: Davis Cup (for India) 2007
Oh I agree, that's the most irritating thing about the whole episode. if he was in idiot, few would get upset. but the point is that he is a brilliant tennis mind and he knows his tennis but he is not putting in the requisite EFFORT to monitor his team. he only seems to take interest in the few ...

Re: Should Leander Paes Step Down as Davis Cup Captain?
I like the out-of-box thinking on someone like Yajaman (some on this forum have even suggested Jay in the past). However, I think someone like him is too much of a tennis light weight to command the attention of our tennis prima donnas. Note that LP is not the only prima donna in Indian tennis. ...
