Re: ITF Junior circuit 2023 India

I didn't even check doubles, thinking they would not be as reckless as to let him play doubles also. My God, the parents need to really go to the Madurai Meenakshi temple and give thanks for the Devi watching over the kid and keeping him physically safe. This was too much. Give the kid a break plea...

Re: [Tennis] Misc. Results for Indians abroad...

I am with you Dinesh. really sad after seeing the Singapore entry list. I was looking forward to that and thought many (including even those like Sahaja who badly needs some wins) would go there... Especially Vaidehi and Sadeepti. I mean, there is a direct 4 or 5 hour flight from pretty much any In...

Re: ITF W25 Jakarta, Indonesia, 20 March- 2 April, 2023

5th seed Sahaja got upset by the 15th seed Leonie Kung (SUI,670) at the Jakarta W25 qualies final. No idea about the match but just a caveat that mentioning only ranking may be deceptive. Leonie is 22 yrs old herself, was the Wimbledon Jr Singles finalist (lost to Iga Swiatek - https://www.wimbledo...

Re: ITF Junior circuit 2023 India

^^ Why do you think that? If he goes to the top like Nishesh Basavareddy, would he play for India? If you know more, that is good news though... You are way better off being a middling tour regular as an Indian in terms of sponsorships and media attention (see Sania Mirza with one tour title in sin...

He was the champion in U16 last year and is a family friend of Varma Alluri.

Re: Junior Circuits Abroad for Indian Kids...

Manas is in the qualifying draw for the Monastir M15 in Tunisia. Playing a wildcard tomorrow. Let us see where he stands after another good period of practice in the academy. This Wildcard is 2 yrs older, Jr World No. 55, has reached JA R3 in Cairo couple of weeks back and reached R2 at the Austral...

Re: ITF Junior circuit 2023 India

Totally agree, Sin Hombre. I have always believed that, but I don't know if Indian-origin kids/parents from abroad think like that. Prakash, Shikha, Neha and Sunitha did calculate that way at one time though - and they got some name, fame and exposure that they would not have got in the US. Jay: I ...

There is also 12 yr old Vedant Mohan in Spain - he is pretty good. Indian Tennis is oozing with world class talent at the sub-junior level these days.

arjun2761 wrote: Fri Mar 10, 2023 5:55 pm Looks like Manas is about 5-6" shorter than Berretini in the photos (although the angles can distort the height difference). That puts him at around 5'11" or 6 ft. Hope he grows at least another 2-3 inches...
Manas is 6 ft 2 in as per his ATP profile.

Re: ITF Junior circuit 2023 India

Yeah, Vihaan seems to be one who will most probably switch to USA at some point. Maybe he was born in India and the parents left for the US when he was small. Krisha Mahendran is mostly the same bucket though whom we have been for some reason excited about. Irvine/LA region based who is still repre...

Re: ITF Junior circuit 2023 India

13 year Vihaan Reddy just thrashed the top seed 16 year old Tejas Ahuja 61 61 in the SF. Vihaan just appears to be a different level talent, I mean just thrashing opponents 3 years older like this. Yes he is a different league. If he for some reason represents India due to logistical reasons, Manas...

Re: Ravindra Jadeja: India's best-ever test all-rounder

Yes agree. I always felt if India had groomed him as a no. 4 bat, he would have over time become one of India's prolific batsman as he has sound defense both against pace and spin.

So in that sense, he has the skill to be your top 3 player with both bat and ball.

Re: Ravindra Jadeja: India's best-ever test all-rounder

Agree with your views, PKB. My only point is its unfair to make generational comparisons. The game has swung big time towards bowlers with the advent of DRS. When I was watching Cricket during the Kumble / Warne era - LBWs used to be given only when the ball was hitting the middle of middle. Pad fir...

Re: Qatar, Indonesia, Kuwait ITF Men’s series - January

Most of these are poor results. Asian futures are about the easiest tournaments that you can play in and most of our players are struggling at this level. Getting points at these events get you over-ranked. However, our players are not over-ranked because they are hardly able to win points even at ...
